Cross Check Commutified
Went down to the LBS today and finished commutifying the new cross check with rear rack (cheapo sun tour that ended up fitting the best -no heel strike-) and some Waterproof panniers from banjo brothers (medium 1000 cubic inches). I just realized that the Banjo Brothers is another MN company. How did I move to CA from WI and end up with a fully MN (surly/ banjo bros) bike
Side Note:
I learned real quick that buying panniers with plasticky removable insides is the way to go. I got shrimp juice on the inside of one bag on the way home from the inaugural grocery run. Clean up was super easy. Woe unto me had I soaked anything else with shrimp juice.
Pics:
1. Bike fully loaded and ready to head home from the grocery store. Along with the rack and bags I also added water bottle cages, frame pump, front and rear lights (planet bike super flash and 1 watt headlight...only the brackets are on in the pic). In the back ground you can see part of the Gf's new Trek Allant. We hooked her up with a new front basket and better pedals today. She is really happy with this as a city bike. The Allant seems like a good bike for the price ($500).
2. Viggo inspecting the contents of the new bags. His prolonged interest is what alerted me to the shrimp juice issue.
3. Viggo helping give size comparison for the panniers. This is without the tops rolled down.

I picked up my 54cm Cross check this weekend. I have only got about 15 miles on it. Too pretty to ride.

I was going to buy some fenders today but I hesitated. At least at first I will be a fair weather commuter ( a lot of fair weather in sf most of the year) and I have already gone pretty crazy spending money on bike stuff lately. This may be a dumb question but is there really much benefit to put fenders on if I don't plan on riding in the rain yet and will have my work clothes in the panniers?

I cracked up laughing at the tiny Chihuahua and the BEWARE OF DOG! sign.
