Idiot on electric scooter thing

Was using the BICYCLE path on my way home, hard to explain but it's a special path to get a street that doesn't allow cars in that section.

I yelled "YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO RIDE THAT THING ON THE BIKE PATH!!!" and he ignored me. GRRRR. Get a real bike, fattie.

Depending on your local laws and or by-laws, he may or may not be allowed to use the path.

I get young 'uns on motor scooters occasionally using the MUP I ride on, I was more concerned with the fact that one almost got wasted by the SUV, at the junction of the MUP and road the other day. It was horribly close the scooter lad never looked for on coming traffic and was almost toast.

It looked vaguely like that thing. Not a bicycle. No pedals etc. Motorized vehicle.

Riding that motor vehicle on the bike path is not cool, but why aggravate yourself by saying something?

Yeah, it is a motorized vehicle. It may have been not-legit on that path -- it's not safe to assume that it wasn't just because it was "motorized" (people can, after all, use "motorized" wheelchairs on a sidewalk). But it's not really worth getting mad about.

Not to tag this on you, particularly, or on this thread, but I'm thinking we could do with a few less "something less than optimal happened to me today" threads. Someone cut me off. Someone pulled out in front of me. A jogger was running on the bike path with an ipod on. Et cetera. All less than optimal, all annoying, we all understand and sympathize. But they're all part of commuting in an imperfect world. None is worth getting seriously steamed about, because it's going to happen to you over and over and over again. Bike commuting is only going to lead to a heart attack if you can't let the annoyances slide off.

Was he impeding the flow of traffic? Was he riding in an unsafe manner?

If not, I wouldn't have a problem with the electric scooter guy.

If we had more electric scooter guys out there blazing the MUPs, maybe there would be fewer idiots out their walking on the left, with their dog leashes stretched across the whole path. Go electric scooter guy.

And the Clydesdale/Athena forum. We love it when skinny people call us fat! :-\ You'd be real popular over there... Thanks. Maybe one day I'll be cool and condescending like you.

I'd probably be pissed if there was one of those scooter thingies on my MUP. Then I'd get over it when I hopped on his wheel for the 25mph pull home.

QFT. In my area our bike paths allow electric vehicles up to a certain HP, I believe. I know, it's annoying being passed by someone who isn't working hard, but it could be legal.

Seriously, motorized vehicles do not belong on MUPs unless otherwise posted.

Why is this a problem? On the local MUP electric assisted bicycles are allowed, whilst gasoline assisted ones are not.

In most areas, if it has two wheels and can't do over 35 MPH, it's allowed on the bike paths. That includes gas powered scooters.

I saw those at Toys-R-Us the other day. I thought they were cool but then I wasn't sure where they would be ridden. slower than a bike, I think
