fender recommmendation
I just managed to wrap my Planet bike front fender almost completely around my front tire (some how I kicked the fender........and it caught the tire and started wrapping)
I am now in the market for new fenders for an 82 nishki, 700c wheels with 700/28 tires, so they need to be on the narrow side.
The planet bike fenders were fine, and I saw some nice plastic/aluminum SKS at my LBS.
So recommendations/expericences with fenders would be appreciated.
thanks

'AXIOM' makes excellent fenders. I'm very satified with the 'Bladerunner Trekk'. They're easily adjusted and virtually indestructable.

I ride 700x28 on two of my bikes and use SKS fenders on both. I have P-35 fenders on my singlespeed, and they offer decent protection from center spray but deep puddles will still give some side-splash, even with mudflaps and a tight fenderline. I use P-45 fenders on my brevet bike, and with a tight fenderline and mudflaps there is nothing getting sprayed from the tires onto the bike.

I have the soma fenders that canyoneagle mentions above and like them very much. I have the "red" ones which in real life are more like orange red/burnt orange in color.

Don't mail-order fenders if you can get them local. 2 of 3 sets I've ordered have arrived warped from being stuffed in a small box. The SKS are fine for me.

lol i JUST did the same thing, although mine was caused by the bolt falling out. Somehow my fender bent completely in half, but i managed to bend it back and it looks fine. Good luck on the next set

I have SKS 45mm fenders on two road bikes (which have 700x35 tires). They are fairly easy to install and require little or no maintenance or re-adjustment besides cleaning them off. I have one set that I haven't touched in about 5 years on a bike that gets pedaled about 5K per year. I don't get any rattles at all from them either. I use small home made felt washers where any metal fender parts or stays come in contact with any metal bolts or frame attachments. I put Planet Bike Cascadia mud flaps on the front fenders to provide additional protection from water and dirt going onto me or the bike.

Planet bike makes a good seat post mounted rear fender (approximately $20), I am very happy with it, as far as front fender's axiom makes the best one I have found, I am not sure of the model name, but it is a very cheap and very popular one that you would most likely find at your local bike shop. The "mountain bike" wrap around fenders that Planet Bike makes are awful, save yourself the hassel of having them rub terribly bad.

Share the road.
Honjo's are in my future for my Cross check. I plan on getting some pretty wood fenders for my future Pugsley.

I have the Planet Bike Cascadias on my LHT, though they are the 26 inch wheel size. I also had the Planet Bike EZ's on my hardtail. I thought both fenders were easy enough to mount up.

Everything oversized that I've ordered from Bikeman.com and AE Bike has arrived in decent condition. Instead of using a pre-made box, they use discarded panels from bike boxes or other large cartons and make a box-like oversized cardboard envelope. 2 sets of fenders (Bikeman) and 2 rims (AE Bike) have arrived in good condition from them.
The drawback is that no matter how much you spend, they don't do free shipping at Bikeman.

I got a set of axiom "paceline dlx reflex" for my specalized sequoia elite with 700c wheels. I had to cut down the struts and re-thread the ends, but other than that they went on pretty easily. I work really long days and generally am riding in the am and pm darkness, so the reflective stripe is important to me. I would not buy them mail-though... parts were missing and Axiom's customer service policy stinks... they require you to go back to the "dealer" to work out the problem. That's great, except when the "dealer" is an on-line, low-overhead vendor who has no customer support staff and really can't help. If you buy them in a shop make sure you get all of the parts and the instructions. I did find the instructions on-line... but not from Axiom... some dude scanned and posted them. Good luck.

+1 on Cascadias. I had a set survive a bad crash, and I think the silver ones are aluminum/plastic?
