Van pins cyclist to tree in Plano, TX...

This just came on the news as a breaking story:

WFAA.com

Thank goodness the cyclist wasn't seriously injured.

See what you get for riding on the sidewalk...

...KIDDING!

Wow thats a little bit close to home for me. I rode 20 miles today trying to figure out my commute for when I start school since the weather was nice. I got really lucky as some one was watching out for me.

I guess the cyclist was wearing a helmet or the artical would have said otherwise.

I really hope the driver was A. Cited, B. Fired and C. Beaten by bystanders. I'll bet that "lost control" is a euphemism for eating or talking on his cell without a headset or staring at himself in the mirror while picking his nose......

Meanwhile, DirectTV is a big company with lots of resources for that cyclist to pursue legally, especially if the driver was doing something dumb or illegal. I wish for a speedy recovery for that cyclist, and a happy financial future to boot.

Hits way too close to home for me.
I had several friends call to see if it was me riding home from work.
Of course they didn't pay attention to the in PLANO part (I commute in Richardson)...sometimes I ride part of Custer on the way in, but never on the way home.
One friend was in tears and so relieved to hear me on the phone when she was calling to let my wife know.

Plus sidewalks are not for me.

Life's too short to live in Dallas (and its bedroom communities).

Yeah around hear I really don't feel safe on them. Sure I may hold up traffic slightly and make people upset but atleast they see me. Plus motorists here don't seem to know what to do if a cyclist is on a side walk.

Also it makes me wonder if the bike had lights on it and if it did I wonder if they were flashing too. I make sure to have one tail light on steady at night for distance gauging and I can't stand a flashing headlight.

Actually, life's too short to live in Plano. I like living in Dallas just fine.

Every time I ride through Plano or Frisco, I always have a picture of a giant (of the 'jolly green' ilk) mounding up hills of dirt, then taking out a big cast iron stamp and pressing out McMansions. Of course, I leave out the part where he bulldozes the trees and strip-mines the topsoil before doing so.

Considering the fact that the van crossed the median and oncoming lanes to hit the cyclist on the opposite sidewalk, I doubt a blinky would have done much good. It was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

And, yea, I had two people call the house to make sure I wasn't riding to Plano, for some reason, that evening.

Denton's not too terribly bad for cyclists. Hopefully not too many people from Lewisville decide to move here!

I meant it in a different way as in a blinking light seems to be like an attraction where people seem to run into them for some reason like people running into police cars at night. I've wondered to if the blinky lights could cause seizures or whatever where we had to be so careful with the strobes in school. Or if the driver just fell asleep at the wheel.
