Nice... I commute on that exact bike, with the addition of moustache bars, new brakes, new saddle, racks/panniers and fenders. So I guess not that exact bike at all.

It's a heavy old girl, but I certainly enjoy riding her.

I would be intrigued to see what the hive mind thinks it's worth as well...

i don't know much about vintage bikes but I'd say $150-200. Vintage frames are so popular right now it'd be a good time to sell.

In my area I'd expect to see that listed on Craigslist for $300, while I would actually be willing to pay $100-150 depending on condition.

$50. No offense, I know you've put more into it than that, but that's what I'd pay. I've put $70 or more into bikes I bought for $10, but I don't expect to sell them for $80. All I've done is to make them rideable $10 bikes.

Vintage frames are so popular right now it'd be a good time to sell.
It ain't what I'd call 'vintage.' It's a decent, older, entry-level steel framed bike. It should serve someone well as a daily rider. You invest in an older bike at your peril. If it's a real classic, you have to go all in to make money off of it. If it's just a decent older bike, you do yourself or someone else a service (not generally at a profit) by making it more comfortable or extended its lifespan. And you earn lots of good karma for that too.

One could get a brand new bike with Sora for 400 or so, so...

Cool bike...I would pay roughly $150 for it.
Anything more and I would start looking for much newer used bikes.

Putting money into non-collectable older bikes (they are still "vintage" in my eyes) is really just a labor of love. A Schwinn World Sport will simply never command the same market value that an old Colnago frame will (although many listers on craigslist seem to think otherwise).

Bottom line is that it is worth whatever the highest bidder will pay and that value changes from day to day and from location to location.

I can relate to you....I put a bunch of money (>$100) into my 1982 Puegoet P8 but that is just for me and my riding pleasure...I would never expect to be able to get that money back out of it.

I had a nice Peugeot about that old that I sold this spring for $270 but it had better components on it than your Schwinn. There was a lot of interest in it and I probably could have asked for more but to be honest $270 was plenty for that bike.

The World Sport is in great condition for an older bike but it's nothing particularly special. You might be able to get $200+ for it if you were in Minneapolis. I don't know what something like that would go for in your area.

Personally I wouldn't pay much over $100 for it, but others definitely would. I paid $350 for a 2005 Spec. Allez with 300 miles on it so I can't imagine spending $300-400 on an old Schwinn unless it was a Paramount or something but those go for big $$$$.

It's a nice bike, but flipping bikes for a profit rarely is worth the expense. If I were to buy a vintage bike, I'd prefer the components to be original.

Like I said, I have the exact same bike, bought about 5 months ago for $60 off CL. I got a deal on it, but I didn't get THAT much of a deal.
