Info on Nirve Sports Bikes?

I've had my eye out for a bike to ride around town to bars and restaurants and such, and was in one of my LBSs and came across a bike by Nirve Sports (a City 3, discontinued I believe). It had this awesome classic styling, so I looked them up. Seems they primarily are known for beach cruisers, but they have some awesome english 3-speed style bikes that I really dig.

For the price point they offer a 7-spd where other big names offer 3-spds. The bike I looked at had some pretty cheap-looking brakes, and the rep at the shop steered me away from them beause he said they have inferior components (but he was steering me towards more expensive bikes than I wanted to buy).

I was wondering if anyone could give me an opinion. Thanks.

The fact that they don't have any brands or models associated with the components is a bit questionable IMO.

Pretty cool styling, and chro-mo tubing is a plus. At the cheaper end of the spectrum, Origin8 offers the Cykel 3, which has a high-ten frame and cantilever brakes, but is pretty similar style-wise.

As a devoted vintage bike guy, I've got a few old English 3-speeds, but it took me a while to find them and I was looking at the Cykel 3 until the floodgates opened for me.

Good point, I hadn't realized that. All I can remember from the one I saw in the store was a 3-speed shimano. I believe at least the hubs are all shimano.

Yeah, other bike models they list the components for. Could be an oversight, could be intentional.
