Strangest Thing In Bike Lane

I passed this little tractor thing going up a 10% grade on the way home tonight. I could see it crossing the street from way down the hill, and by the time I got up to where it was it was securely blocking my lane. I don't really know what else he could have done to safely travel that road, but it was annoying and amusing all at the same time.

Anyone else have unusual things they have encountered actively using the bike lane, but that are not bikes?

Note all the design intelligence that went into this urban bike trail in Santa Monica, California. The striping delivers you to a bicycle death trap at the intersection with a three-way change in surface. Take your pick: cement, loose gravel in a ditch, or sewer grid.

Just move the whole sign into the right lane of the road. Problem solved.

A guy on XC skis, last winter during the first snowstorm. Not really in the "bike lane", since the road doesn't officially have one; but the road has a 5' shoulder at most points and this dude was skiing to work.

That's not strange, that's ridiculously awesome.

Coast Highway. When was that taken? It hasn't been there for a while.

Last week, A few hundred feet before that though there is now a construction sign blocking the entire lane with no easy way around beside taking a lane. No sign of construction.

The strangest thing in the bike lane? PEDESTRIANS!

And, of course, cars.

There was some guy on a ****ty little 2 stroke motor scooter with a top speed of like 25 mph. I could accelerate faster than him and hold in front for a minute before he passed me. I played leap frog with him for a few miles before all the smog from his engine killed my speed, it was just difficult to breath near it. I kept catching him to tell him to gtfo the bike lane since he's smoggin it up.

I used to walk down the community path in my neighborhood every day to work. One morning, while wearing my headphones, I suddenly got honked at. I must've jumped a mile! I look behind me and a public transportation worker is cutting down the path to get to work and can't get by me even though I am walking way off to the right. It was the last place I expected to get honked at .

One of those portable "Your speed is" radar units in the bike lane was a bit annoying recently.

Worst part was watching my speed go from 21 to 15 as I travelled uphill to where it sat.

Wow! That would never happen here. They wait for you no matter how slow you are, pedestrian, bike, whatever. If they have a grassy area they can go around, but someone in a supervisory role has given them a clear message about who the trail is there to serve, and it isn't the maintenance crew.

I saw that in Reno several years ago when we got 2+ feet of snow. Mine was a gal though in full XC skiing gear who skied by the house.

My commute used to take me over a bridge with a separate bike lane. One morning, there was a couch in the middle of it. Which had also been set on fire during the night. It was a real pain to get around it!

A red and white igloo cooler laying on it's side. It was pretty banged up and looked as if it had fallen out of or off of a vehicle and tumbled quite a distance. As I pulled up to it and sat it upright, I could hear ice and water sloshing about. On both sides of the igloo were stickers that read " BIOHAZARD ".

It was with quite a bit of trepidation that I opened that cooler. Inside was a plastic bag containing a severed, human big toe.
