Commute Over TJ Bridge in So. Maryland (VIDEO)
Had to do a quick job on the other side of the bridge, which is "not advisable" for bikes per the state sign at each end. Shoulders are very narrow and the side barrier is rather short... I swear my hips were above the barrier! Next time I will be less nervous about turning my head and giving you some views of beautiful Southern Maryland where the Patuxent River hits the Chesapeake Bay. I can't believe they didn't provide access to this bridge for bicycles and pedestrians. The next closest river crosing is approximately 25 miles north... and that bridge sucks for bicycles and pedestrians too... so I think you have to go approximately 50 miles north before you can get to a "safe" crossing. It's a crime.

Joe,
I've driven over that bridge once - your video does not do the height above water justice. It is a tall windy ribbon of concrete, as you can see in the beginning of the video. And the idea that you're sitting higher than the Jersey barrier is crazy. But thanks for sharing - the only way I'll see it on a bike with cars is via the video.

Five minutes of thrills.
I like how the cars waited for you to get on the bridge before trying to pass you. Even better, how they kept passing you when there was traffic coming the other way.
They had their chance when they had to replace it a few years ago. They went for cheap.

Yeah, whoever designed that should be shot. All the money that goes into making a huge bridge like that, and they only put in 2 skinny lanes of traffic and waist high barriers. It looks like it's in the middle of nowhere, but you might as well at least make it halfway usable for something other than a car.

Anyone going to yell at more for suggesting that he take the lane? I would have... I dont mind getting honked at but with people passing me that close and while there is ON COMING TRAFFIC, screw them. They can take an extra 5 minutes to cross the bridge.
Anyone else as crazy as me?

"next time I will be less nervous..." NEXT TIME! I held on to my chair just watching the video..especially when you didn't have the fence and only the jersey barrier....you're a braver man than I...I don't like going over Memorial Bridge or 14th St Bridge in DC! ..but thanks for the video. :-)

I'm originally from Hollywood Md and grew up on Clarks Landing Rd. I could see the bridge from my house and have crossed it many times in a car. I live in Alabama now. I remember when the bridge was built. You are insane, but I love that you did it.

Wow. That is high over the water, plus not very bike friendly. Thank you for putting your life on the line for the view.
