And I simply could not believe the ammount of people on the WO&D trail!

Amazing amount of runners out there and only an hour made the difference. It was like riding through a chicken farm, trying not to run over the runners. People need to tone down the ipod thing so they can hear something around them...

Same thing on the Rock Creek trail when I leave a bit earlier. Which always surprises me, because I never run on that path. The surrounding neighborhoods have much nicer scenery and a greatly reduced threat of getting run over by a biker. I can't wait for it to get cold again.

Today did seem busier than usual, and I was riding at my usual time from Vienna to downtown DC. Maybe everyone was just waiting for the true summer heat to arrive?

Don't be a MUP-pet. Get on the road.

LOL. I would love to but it is a solid 20 miles from home to work and a nice 18 on the MUP. That and there just isn't a logical route into town from that side. Not without a death wish at least...

Airzounds for the win

Weds and Thursdays seem to be consistently busier on the W&OD. Don't let the MUP Haters get you down either. There's little better for the direction you (and I) come from to get into town.

I find that to be true for all of that DC area MUP's I've actually ridden on (haven't gotten up to the Anacostia branch trails). They are fairly direct, and run along major highways or arteries that you couldn't or wouldn't want to ride on. The side streets are in block format and have lots of stop lights. My street ride is 4.5-5 miles depending on the specific route, while the MUP is 5.5 miles and takes less time. It would only be easier/quicker if I ran red lights, which I generally don't do except in rare cases at specific long lights.

^ I'm probably just jealous.

Last weekend, I went for a long MTB ride. I used the Town Lake trail to connect one set of trails to another. When I hit the downtown portion, it was INSANE with joggers. That part of the ride was useless. I definitely wouldn't want to do that every day.

Oh yah. You don't want to be caught on some of these MUP's (or at least parts of the trails) on the weekend if you want to go over 10-15mph. But for commuting they are pretty good.
