3 Ft Law website with interesting Video

Just came across this website today that has an interesting video. They're also selling a great jersey promoting 3 Foot law.

Thanks DataJunkie!

Living in Wisconsin this is pretty depressing. Now of course Madison and Milwaukee are head and shoulders above every other Wisconsin city in ALL regards and especially in regards to biking but this is still very unsettling.

I have a few videos from Miami getting buzzed very closely by cars, SUV's, and vans. The city has started putting up signs on bus stops to inform motorists about the rights cyclists have.

Just noticed the author of the site has created an interesting tool-http://www.roadguardian.com/home/ for reporting/recording dangerous cycling spots. Interesting stuff.

Oddly, there is no specified distance in Ontario's Highway Traffic Act.

148:
[snip]
(6) Every person on a bicycle or motor assisted bicycle who is overtaken by a vehicle or equestrian travelling at a greater speed shall turn out to the right and allow the vehicle or equestrian to pass and the vehicle or equestrian overtaking shall turn out to the left so far as may be necessary to avoid a collision. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 148 (6).

So basically, if you can pass without actually hitting someone, go for it. Sheesh.

I wonder how many motorists take the bus?

I read about a study that showed cars will pass closer to a cyclist wearing a helmet than they will to one not wearing a helmet. The drivers assumes a cyclist wearing a helmet is more skilled and will ride straighter than a rider not wearing one. I will see if I can find it again.

But are they going to tell the bus drivers?

Those should be on the outer walls of busses

I think it is driver training.

On the way to ride of Silence. I was almost hit by a Georgia State Rep with the Georgia tag of SR37 on a red ford explorer.

In GA the ONLY time you do any sort of knowledge test is when you initially get your drivers license. I want at every renewal that you have a mandatory 20 question test on road rule and I want 25% of those to be about bikes and 15% to be about pedestrians. 20% about distracted drivers.

Wait, I thought it was because helmets and jerseys evoked images of arrogant yuppie Lance-wannabees trying to steal the roads, whereas street clothes and lack of helmet evoked images of "harmless student" and "friendly neighbor"?

yeah, it's rough out there for sure. spring and summer for me - that's it. fall commuters are NUTs up here in NE and you won't catch me bike commuting now. some folks at work are hassling me even calling me a whimp! a-holes ... - I'd like to see them try it!

What sad, is that I know a lot of people that would look at the jersey and get pissed off, and buzz you just remind you who's "boss" on the road.
