When you drive a company billboard maybe you should be nice.

Really has been an pleasantly uneventful summer but with school back in it just seems to bring the stupid out in people with the extra traffic. I got buzzed with a horn by a F250 with company logo today.

Letter I just shot off to every email I could find for this guys company. Maybe their will be some embarrassment when he see's his 10-12 employees and co owners on the CC.

I hope it was good for your ego bullying a bicyclist today that had the audacity to be on "your" road.

Will the driver of the truck with the license tag "3 JDH" who laid on the horn to intimidate me at 4:40 still think its funny when he is convicted of a misdemeanor?

I hear that conviction is on par with reckless driving and jumps the insurance up almost as much as a DUI. I know where I work, since I do drive for them, if I got convicted of that even in my personal vehicle If I didn't loose my job I would be lucky. Course I bet you are one of the owners of the company from that Tag number. There was a motor cycle cop not a 1/4 mile back from you when you pulled that today. Be glad I didn't see him till I was going down the hill. If I had seen the cop while we were stopped I would have flagged him down.

Yes I was dialing the cops at the light at bellsferry when you were eyeing me in the review then I decided not to. I guess you probably thought that the way you gave me plenty of room on the second pass. Besides you are driving a billboard I knew I could track you down so I never hit send. I did take a picture of your truck and tag though.

Normaly I wait my turn in line and stop behind the last car in line just like I was in a car. The less cars I pass in that bike lane the less that will be trying to pass me the next cycle of the light. I don't like that bike lane and have asked the DOT to remove it till they install a bike lane the rest of the lenght of the road (it is coming). It makes it dangerious for me to have to merge with traffic IN the intersection. I never use that lane as a result. It was usefull today to get your tag number though.

Just so you know:

Aggressive Driving

[§40-6-397]

A person commits the offense of aggressive driving

when he or she operates any motor vehicle with the

intent to annoy, harass, molest, intimidate, injure, or

obstruct another person, including without limitation

violating Code Section 40-6-42, 40-6-48, 40-6-123,

40-6-184, 40-6-312, or 40-6-390 with such intent

[§40-6-397(a)].

Any person convicted of aggressive driving shall be

guilty of a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated

nature [§40-6-397(b)].

Many cyclist ride with a video camera running for drivers like you. They are quite inexpensive these days. https://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...ingid=28022957

Not sure why you have this attitude towards somebody that instead of firing up my pig 454 powered Suburban land tug this morning I decided to get a little exercise on my way in and home from my job and rode the bike to enjoy the great weather we had today. My Truck being in the driveway means one less on the road holding you up since you seem to be in such a hurry. It keeps my blood sugar in check and makes my Cardiologist happy to see my Cholesterol down. Besides with traffic on Chastain as bad as it is it only takes me 5 extra minutes with a bike.

Do you have a family? I do, my wife and two kids would like me home each night.

You see I am not some snot nose kid flipping burgers at the Wendy's or going to KSU, I'm in my 40's and have 17 years in on my job and have a kid that is a Senior in Highschool and one in grade school. I ride because I like it despite drivers that act like you did today. I ride to stay healthy so I can be around to see my kids grow up.

You came a LOT closer to me then you think. When I gave you your IQ I could have slapped that passenger side mirror off the truck. Your passenger mirror was less then a foot off my shoulder when you passed me. Next year the Law will be minimum 3 feet and if I can touch your truck like I could today it would have been an agressive driving ticket once I showed the video and after todays run in with you I will have a camera very soon.

There was plenty of room for you to have just lifted off the throttle to slow just a little so you could put two wheels over the center line once you dropped back from the car to your left. There were no cars behind you or the car next to you that would have prevented you from doing so. Instead you decided to be a jerk keep in the throttle and lay on the horn.

Chastain is right on the edge (14ft lanes) of me legally being able to ride right down the center of a lane and force drivers to change lanes for MY safety. I'm not that kind of rider. I share it when it is wide enough in the straight aways so as not to hold people up.

I want us (bikes and cars) to get along. I do everything I can to minimize holding people in cars up. You just happen to drive a very wide vehicle and should have given more room. What you did was uncalled for and bordered on criminal the way you endangered my life with your aggressive driving.

Good. Always report these incidents, especially with company vehicles. Of course, cops get the call first, then the company.

And an apology.

Dear Mr. Beeblebrox,

On behalf of JDH Developers we sincerely want to apologize on behalf of one of our workers that we let borrow our truck for the day. On different occasions there are situations in which our workers have to use the company truck, and are out of our supervision while doing so. We more than agree with you that the behavior that the person showed is completely uncalled for an unnecessary, and there will be repercussions on behalf of our company to prevent a situation such as this from happening in the future. Being in that situation must have been scary for you, and you can’t understand the deep regret we feel for you to have to feel that way. At one time or another, we have all been in a situation that could be harmful to us due to the stupidity and ignorance of other people. Each one of us here at JDH Developers can sympathize with you, and we completely feel that you are being just in emailing us to inform us of such behavior that is occurring that relates to our company. Again, with our deepest sympathy, we are truly sorry for causing you any hurt or scared feelings. We hope that in the future you can bicycle and exercise freely without having to worry about your safety, or the safety of those around you. We wish you and your family the best, and God bless you.

Sincerely,

J.D.H.

Wow! Glad to see the apology. Hopefully the employee will receive a lesson and learn from this experience.

My Reply
Thank you for the reply.

I do not want anybody fired I want them educated that bicyclist do have a right to the road and it is the drivers obligation to take care when passing them. I hope you will take the time to have the driver review the links I provided.

Have a good day.

Wow, good for you Grim. You would think people would realize the types of vehicles they are driving and what makes them easily identifiable. Especially considering it was a company vehicle. Not good for business in an already tough economy.

I would have called the cops. Then wrote the e-mail telling them all that, except it would have said that the cops were on the way.

But, my patience is running thin these days.

I've had people buzz me and then stop in the road, get out of their company truck (with huge decals identifying their employer), and come after me while screaming and swearing. You have to wonder what the minimum IQ is to work at some of these places...

Glad you could track him down. But a word of advice: keep the ranting/venting to yourself and write a bit more formal of a letter/email. I'm surprised they replied back in such a professional way after getting a letter like that.

A letter is always good.

About two weeks ago, I had a long truck pass me, then come over way to soon. I had to go into the gutter to avoid becoming a ghost bike under the wheels.

Caught up at the light ... got the company name and tag number ... fired off an e-mail (mine was formal in nature but gave specifics of what happened).

Got a nice response back-- two in fact, one from the company owner and one from a safety officer.

They apologized, said they had spoken with the driver and would hold a companywide driver meeting to discuss with the others.

I was impressed.

I got buzzed on the way to work one morning by an exterminator truck... happened to be the one we used for work, as well as for all of the owner's apartment buildings.

I made a phone call when I got to the office and after identifying who I worked for, asked to speak with a supervisor. I let them know that it wasn't really a good idea to nearly run over their customers.

I got a visit at the office later in the day from the driver and a supervisor with an apology.
