Blocking your fire exits
To cover or not to cover, that is the question
Hi guys. I have to park my bike outside in an industrial area and I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on using a bike cover or similar to protect against getting sandblasted by grit/rain/etc. (Bike is right by front door under my window so theft isn't a concern.) Is it worth getting a cover or should I just wipe the chain off before heading home?
I did a search on the forum and couldn't find anything related to this; if there is a thread already I apologize.
In my personal experience, bikes corrode quite a bit faster when they're left sitting out in the rain compared to riding in the rain. I think it has to do with standing water, compared to water that is beading up and getting shaken or blown off as you ride.
So if it's going to rain or is raining it's best to cover it or bring it in doors. Snow has the same effect as well, if that's an issue where you are located.

I haven't had any experience with this, but a tarp would seem like it should work fine. Or a material similar to what is used on car covers.
It sounds like a simple plastic grocery bag would work. You can put one over a seat and tie it or use a rubberband. I don't see why with a little ingenuity you couldn't figure something similar out for the drivetrain.
