Help for a fellow commuter

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...t-Commute-EVER

jt has had some misfortune both with his health and his bike. Some of us would like to help. This thread is to determine the depth of support and a method to collect funds.

Chime in if you want to help or if you have suggestions how we can collect the money. His dad mentioned he could use help with the medical bills and would not ask for help with the lost bike so what do we do?

Paypal has been suggested as they apparently have a method for this type of thing. I've never done it before. Maybe someone could advise how it works or help us set up an account if that's what we want to do.

What do you think commuters?

After looking at this paypal option a little further, that's probably the way to go. Contributions can be sent in a variety of ways. It looks as though we need a web site to host it. Can this web site do it?

We have a forum member that has contacted Bikesdirect hoping they might see it as a nice PR opportunity. Worth a try I'd say.

I'm still relatively new to the forum, but i was shocked by his earlier post. As someone who commutes regularly, I'll help any way I can.

jt's story was enough to bring tears to my eyes. I'm glad he was able to get away because it sounds like it could have been a lot worse. This kind of event really puts life into perspective. Obviously no amount of money can undo this injustice, but hopefully it can help his recovery in some way.

I think a show of support from our community is fantastic. I'm in.

Progress may be slow on this but we will get there eventually folks. At this point, we need to figure out a way to set this up on paypal and I'm not sure I'm the guy to try to figure it out and it's not because I'm afraid of the work.

btw, are there any mods out there that can help us with this? Has anything been done like this before around here? After all, there is a charity forum. Somebody must know something about this stuff.

IB already has a PayPal account for registrations, right? I'm sure that if they wanted to they could ramrod this thing by collecting donations, presenting a check (which would be a nice PR coup for them) and start a thread informing us of the overall results and pics of any dog and pony show. What did Stormecrowe have to say about it?

I'd be down for donating $10 or so. I got a big family to feed, but they can go without pizza for a night to help.

He suggested I start this thread. He also said IB may not want to get involved because of liability issues.

Bunch of freakin wussies...I guess community only goes as far as taking what we users generate in revenue from membership and ad dollars. For a company called Internet Brands they sure seem pretty clueless about how to build their own brand.

Ok let's do this:

Plan A: See if we can get the recipient to give us address info or a paypal account to send donations to.

Plan B: I'll check to see if I can use my paypal account to accept donations...if so I'll take care of that end, but you gotta get me the recipient's contact information so we can get the donations to him at some point.

Edit: I can set up a web page with a paypal Donate button that people can go to if we need Plan B.

JT, all you need to do is supply an email address. We can post PayPal contributions directly to that address.

You guys really are too much.

I will set up a separate bank account for any donated funds for the express purpose of making payments on my medical expenses.
