Noooo!!!!!

The battery in my cyclocomputer died!!!!! I lost my mileage!!!! I was over 1,000 miles on the bike (I was liking being able to brag to the non bikers at work about how far I had ridden......) ARGH!!!!!

Now I get to start over from scratch...... At least I have only made on commute to work this season (second is tonight! )

Your colleagues are going to be so disappointed.
You should bring them chocolates to make up for it.

My Cateye lets me adjust the mileage after a battery change. I've never done it, but maybe you have that option.

Planet Bike computers are the same way; I can adjust my odometer in the setup menu.

EVERY computer I've ever seen, even the $5 specials at department stores, allow you to set the odometer. Mine loses miles every time I change the battery.

I could, But I don't know what the exact mileage was...... I'm a little OCD, in that I wont put in the mileage unless I know it exactly!

Then you're a perfect candidate for BikeJournal.com. Record your rides there. Then you won't lose your mileage, and you can compare your rides with the rest of us there. Produces good stats too to impress your non-cycling coworkers. (Then keep the chocolates for yourself.)

Consider it an opportunity to give your OCD a big raspberry. How accurate do you think the reading was on that computer anyway?

Here's a challenge: Don't buy a new battery.

Just ride.

Correct.

However, they also didn't reset when I changed batteries, either.

We need a mileage poll to sort this one out...
  1. 1086.4
  2. 1806.4
  3. 1064.8

I just looked at a PDF of the Velo 5/8 manual, and you're right. But the odometer only goes to 10,000 miles too, so it's clearly not much of a computer.

OK, so Cateye sells a few useless, badly designed computers. But I'm pretty sure they're in the minority. I've never owned a Cateye. The cheap Wal*mart computer I bought for < $10 had this ability, as did my Sigma 1606L and my Planet Bike Protege 9.

Battery died at just 1000 miles? Ride faster

BTW, I felt the same way when I lost my old computer during a cycling hiatus. I now keep an excel spreadsheet with all the info, and have added a couple forumulas to tell me avg, maxes, etc... even divided among which bike I was on at the time

You think YOU are OCD?

BTW, Oct 2006 is when I purchased this replacement computer... hasn't needed a battery yet.
