My actions + Dangerous driver

Its scary how many times it has crossed my mind...
But if i come in contact with a driver denying me of my safety, is it legal or something along those lines to kick in someones side mirror?

Today i had some broad (6am) right on my rear wheel laying on her horn, then cut past me and ripped off.

How do you react in situations like this?
... Thankfully i am mentally stable, or she wouldn't have had any windows left on her suv.

Smile and wave...smile and wave. You are not going to come out ahead in a confrontation with 3000lbs of steel.

Although I did get a carload of kids yesterday. They did the hang out the car and scream thing... then got caught at a stop 100 yards ahead. I casually pulled up and said "No, I'm sorry, thank you for asking but I won't have gay sex with you"

The slump in the seats was priceless

Smile and wave boys....... Smile and wave.....

I feel incredibly lucky. Outside from one incident, The worst I have received in three years of commuting is "Nice ass white boy!"

Pretend to call the cops (or for real, if warranted)... that will really mess with their heads all day long.

I think a lot of drivers think I AM a cop - I wear a reflective vest most of the time. I get driver behavior which is far more courteous than I see drivers giving cyclists who are clearly not cops (either in street clothes or racing kit).

If I can catch them at a light, I'll take a photo of the plate (make sure the driver can see you doing this). If possible, try to take a photo of the driver's face. I've done this a few times and have never had to actually call the cops.

I actually "pulled a car over" once. As we came up to a light, the SUV came right up behind me, cut off the car in the left lane, passed me, then cut back into the right lane ahead of me and made the right turn. I was right behind her and displayed a left-armed right-turn signal (arm out, forearm pointed up). She saw my arm motion, saw my blinking headlight & hi-viz jacket and apparently thought I was a cop indicating that she should pull over. So after the turn, she sheepishly pulled over to the side of the road. I thought she was getting ready to turn right so I popped out to the left to go around her. When I got up beside her and she realized I wasn't a cop, she acclerated away. It was only later, after thinking about it some, that I put two and two together and realized she thought I was a cop. It was the only explanation I could come up with for why she behaved like she did.

A few weeks ago I nearly jumped out of my skin when a vehicle next to me hit the horn while passing me. Plenty of room for everyone, so completely unexpected, WTF? As the vehicle passed I recognized it. It was my wife and kids inside, they were just saying Hi!

Either that or she was stopping to get out and kick your ass for being on her road.

In my early commuting days, back when I responded to almost every car horn with a one fingered wave, I had to repeatedly explain to friends and co-workers why honking to say hello sucks.
