Rites of Passage

Well I got hit by a car today on the way home from work. Luckily the woman was at a stop light and not going all out when she hit me. I got caught in the cross walk of an urban bike trail and I guess I didn’t time the light properly, she also never looked to her left to see if anyone was crossing the street.

No bodily harm done, but my front Mavic ES took a good hit; hopefully my Tarmac frame is not damaged. Getting hit even lightly does shake you up a bit. Makes me wonder about the possibility of it happening again like it did to a coworker who now refuses to commute to work.

I guess I’ll give it a few days (by that time the legs will have stopped shaking) before I get back on the bike again to make that trip through urban rush hour traffic. Next time I’ll make sure to time my lights better and never assume the driver of a car has seen me. It's really too bad because I was really enjoying my ride home this evening; it being almost 70 degrees and all.

Well, ride safely everyone, it's a jungle out there.

PS. Can a Mavic ES wheel be fixed or if it's bent is it toast?
