Stans in a UST rim?
I have a UST rear wheel that has a regular tube and regular tire (Panaracer T Serve Messenger). I'm sick of getting puncture flats, can I just keep my tire and convert to Stans?? I took it to the bike shop and they initially said no problem. When the guy got around to it though he says I now have to buy a UST specific tire to do this. I don't want to spend another $60 on a tire when I have a perfectly good one already.
Anyone put stans in UST rim?

Stans works quite well on UST rims,- better than on any other type of rim. The deal is that your tire will poorly seal because it does not have a UST bead. Stans lists specific non ust tires on their website that seem to work OK, can't remember if your particular model is listed.

I take it then difficulty mounting the tire does not a good seal make? Because that tire is a dirty WH0RE to mount and baaaarely fits on the rim. I'll check out the Stans site, thanks for the reply.

I use the Stan's system on a mountain bike just fine. It does NOT have either a UST rim or UST tire. Just takes a little more work to get it sealed. Pretty much takes good soap and compressed air to get the seal.
If the current Stan's and UST set up is still limited to a claimed 40 pounds, I would not want it on my commute bike, but it works great for mountain biking.

Thanks for the replies, I'm scrapping the whole plan and just going with a slime tube CB HI, what do you do for road riding to prevent flats? I ride on Oahu with conti gatorskins on my road bike and T Serve Messenger on a hybrid and get flats all the time.
