a strange head on collision: moral - keep your eyes on the road (or the MUP)
this hardly needs saying, but, yes, it makes sense to keep you eyes on the MUP.
today, on the ride home from work there were continuing bad storms. I was riding along a deserted MUP when the storm really picked up, rain pelting me and the wind so bad i had to try very hard to not get thrown off. so i put my head down, and tried to get as small as possible. the next thing that happens a shopping trolley flies into me! or i into it. basically, it was moving very fast at me, rolling on the ground (so yes not flying actually) and we collided. i am pretty sure i didn't hit the ground, but have two sore hips and know for a fact i was hit on one side only. happened very fast. strange weather indeed...watch out for trollies!

Ouch, glad to hear you're only bruised! I've seen shopping carts rolling along in the breeze before, but the one I pick at the supermarket inevitably has gummed up wheels and only goes in circles...

Maybe it was Cancellara's shopping cart and it had a little motor in it
(Disclaimer: I don't believe any of the rumors about Cancellara).

I almost rode into two separate pedestrians during the Trek across Maine. I was shortcutting through the Big Box parking lot, saw a nice looking woman on a bike (very rare around here) to my right, when I looked forward again I had just narrowly missed a little old lady walking out of the BB. No harm no foul. I took another appreciative glance at the blond on the bike, almost rode into a very Large Man who was less than impressed with my bike handling skills. I didn't hit him, but, he still wasn't impressed.

That's a variety that doesn't seem to be covered in the field guide.

I go by a store that uses black shopping carts, and they occasionally end up on the path. They blend in really well with the black pavement too.
