Need advice on a bike (gary fisher mamba)

I'm looking for a bike that i can nearly do anything with, mostly commuting, but i'd like to be able to ride it over rough terain easily, and there's alot of random debris on my streets. i'm a pretty small guy, 5'5'' and about 145 lbs. i found this bike on craiglist, and i was wondering, is it a good deal? does anyone one know what year it is? and is it a girls bike or a guys bike? I heard that gary fisher is suppose to be very good but i don't really know much about bikes. heres the link,

The hardest thing would probably be finding a bike the correct size for you. Probably somewhere around a 52cm road bike and/or 15inch mountain bike. To get the "best deal" find a bike that fits. To see if a bike fits you need to ride it. If you want to know specifics probably ask the guy who is selling it or do a web search.

To me it looks like a 2001 model:

I'd say it's a unisex frame, and judging by the severe slope of the top tube it's a small one, so it just might fit you very well. As long as everything works well I'd say it's worth the $75 that the owner is asking for, but I'd still get it tuned up at your LBS.

I don't believer the 29er model came out until 2009.

My advice: Ride it, buy it, tune it up, slap on some fenders, a rack, lights, and some semi-slick tires. Then you'll have a nice commuter that will handle off-road duties as well.

    Good luck!
    Gettin' my Fred on.
