Casseroll-Clubman-Casseroll-Clubman

I've been going back and forth, looking for sales, Craigslist bargains, etc. Leaning toward the Casseroll. But then the Raleigh Club, man shows up for $800 (list $1099) in Minneapolis store. I'm taking my daughter up to St. Paul Thursday to college. Fate, right? But I loved that Casseroll, so I've still been looking...and looking...and looking, for my size. I've checked on-line inventories or called probably 70-80 Salsa dealers (REALLY)! Their site does a 500 mile search around a given location: San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Miami, Houston, New York City...JACKPOT! I think I found the ONLY 2010 in stock anywhere in the country! But they still want $1100 ($1199 list) plus shipping

And I know the model is changing for 2011, so you'd think they would be going on a decent sale.
One last call to that shop to see if it was still even available, AND THE PRICE HAS DROPPED TO $900

Put the $ money down an hour ago. Now just need to tell my wife If I survive, I will be a happy man.

What swayed you toward the Casseroll over the Clubman? I've had my eye on the Clubman recently, but I probably won't be buying anything until next year.

The casseroll is a very nice bike. I test rode one when my brother was looking. It felt incredibly responsive.

It can take bigger tires. The Clubman looked nice, but only took up to a 28 with a fender, 32 without. The Casseroll 32 with and 37 without. I test rode the Casseroll on a brick street, and it still had a nice ride. That really impressed me. The Clubman was very tempting, though, especially when the price dropped down to $800. I really liked the test ride on the Salsa, the Clubman couldn't fairly compete for comfort because it's set up with 25 tires and a not-broken-in Brooks saddle. It was definitely fast and had good pick-up. The Cassserolll test rode with 35's and a comfortable saddle. The brown color of the 2010 Clubman didn't do much for me. Actually I was considering the '09 in the sort of "gun-metal grey-blue". The 2011 green looks good, though. But, I thought the Clubman was a lot of bike for the money (W? the Brooks saddle, fenders included, and tire pump) especially at the sale price. I would have no major qualms about the Clubman though. I just finally decided that I wanted the ability to roll bigger tires for comfort on long bumpy commutes.

But if you can't swing the Clubman this year, keep in mind how much of a price drop there was starting about a week ago...so about mid-August. If you can hold out until then, you can probably get a good deal. I also saw a number of larger size than I needed on Craiglist (I would ride a 53 Clubman).

I had to stop looking for a Casseroll. There were none to be found. What did they make, 5? Based on the Salsa site, I am probably a 51. Interested to see when 2011 models come out, but don't want to pay full price.

I think it was a 51 that I test rode in a shop in Dekalb, IL, but I'm not positive. The shop I found it is shipping it to me for only $25.

I just testroad a 56 Casseroll at Johnny Sprockets in Chicago yesterday. They have exactly one so if someone wants one they can jump on it and support my LBS I instead got a Jamis Aurora yesterday, it just fit my needs better (plus 56 is small for me) and was the 09 so I got a good deal But i loved the casseroll. I don't know what year it is, I thought it was a '10. It's all 105 components.

Guess I didn't look far enough outside of Cali. Looked on their site. Looks like they don't ship.

The shop I got mine normally doesn't ship. In fact, they said normally they are not [U]allowed[U] by Salsa to ship their bikes. I imagine it's a territorial dealership thing. Anyway, since it's end of year, and everyone including Salsa, wants the current stock to sell out before the 2011s come in, they agreed to ship. So it might be worth a phone call to find out.
