Maiden Voyage
So its been about a year and half since last time i commuted, and i moved from phoenix az to warrensburg Mo. I decided its about time i got back into commuting again. So yesterday i picked up my new commuter bike a 2011 Trek 6000. between the super ****ty roads here and WINTER(Which will be a big change for me) i thought the mt bike will be the best bet plus there are trails i can have fun on after work. In a couple hours will be my first commute here in Missouri so i'll see how it goes on this bike. my commute will be 12 miles one way. In phoenix my commute was 15 miles and i was doing it on a 9er with knobbies. The only difference i have now is HILLS.

Shiny ride, I personally would go with slicks and lose the suspension fork,YMMV. Welcome back to the commuting world, Enjoy.

Thanks yall, i'm glad to be back. ok so my commute ended up being 13.95 miles and it took me 40 min exactly with a 18lb(thats everything i need for work) backpack. ive came to the conclusion that i will be buying pannier bags and a rack because the backpack(which is my backpacking bag) put too much stress on the groin area so it made my ride uncomfortable. i'm gunna keep the knobbies because i will be bikepacking also so i wont always be on paved roads. overall the ride was great.
PS
the lockout on the new tora fork works like a champ. its like i'm riding ridged

Welcome back to the wonderful world of commuting. If you don't want slicks, than maybe something with inverse tread would help.

well i had looked at like bontrager xr1 or kenda small block 8.. they still have thread but withe the lugs being so close id figure the rolling resistance would be less.

I run these. They also make a "non-Survivor" model, which is significantly cheaper, and might be ok. I like mine so far, but haven't had them on any trails. I have the 1.5s, and they roll really smoothly on the road. The Drifters came highly recommended by other BF members.

Looks like a great commuter bike to me. How many gears? Looks like you have about 18 sprockets on the back and 4 on the front = 72 gears, holey dooley.
I have a Trek 7100 which is more of a roadie with comfort forks.
What sort of stand is that I see in the photo? I want one.
