On my flat-bar bike I can still use the brake while depressing the horn trigger with my thumb. I can't speak for drop-bar users, but if that described my setup, then I would mount the horn on the right side so that my left hand could still be free to use the front brake.

I gave up my airzound. I honked it by accident 25x more often than on purpose.

I came to the realization after years on this planet, that not everyone has the same social development. Some of us are still barely above bird-brain level.
Don't insult the birds. They do much better on many visual tests than humans.

I've only had mine less than a week, but this seems odd to me. I don't know how I'd honk it on accident.

I accidently blew my Airzound twice. Both time I was leaning over the handlebar to pinch my tire to see if the air was low. My belly hit the button scary the crap out of several people. I fixed that by adding a bar extender and lowering the switch to a different position. I must admitt though, it was fun watching those people having the ghost jumped out of their skin.

On a flat bar, AirZound can be mounted within thumb's reach, that's how I have it. Keeping a whistle in your mouth while riding doesn't seem like much fun to me.

I've done that a bunch of time whiles doing something around the bike. In most cases my ears were way too close, I scared myself!

I'm guilty of this as well and try to just laugh things off or remember that I'm still upright and need to worry about who else is lurking behind me and not being patient or paying attention.

Yesterday on the ride home someone in a large SUV blew their horn as they passed close and slid in front of me in the right hand (of three empty) lanes. 50 feet later they cruised past a "Bike Route" sign. I had to laugh but I doubt the driver saw the sign. Stay safe out there.

When we were riding with our Mayor the security detail on bikes had no problem with whistles. Anyway, it's about options and I do not want to give up a water bottle nor have my hands other then near my brakes so that leaves my voice and those who are not as loud moth as me they have fewer options.

There are tons of obscure laws that are usually not enforced, like the whistle one. But I don't want to take my chances, I don't have money for tickets and all it takes is one ******* cop. Some time ago a guy was ticketed for sitting on the sidewalk. That must have been like once in 100 years.

Oh, and flat bars rock!

You would have to fail the "attitude test" for a cop to book you for something like that.

If I'm sitting on a sidewalk and a cop comes over and tells me to get up I'd have a very hard time maintaining a positive attitude knowing there are much more serious violations cops let people get away with.
