Washington Monument to Crystal City, VA (VIDEO)

Not as death defying as Joey's last video, but it does combine Conan music with one of the best urban bike paths in America.

Interesting route at the beginning around the Washington. I'd go on the east side of the monument instead, which goes past the Holocaust Museum and meets up with your route at the 2:11 mark. You can get rid of a lot of pedestrian crossings that way.

I'm still pretty new to the area and kind of finding my way around. I'll try it out, thanks!

Nice. I attend quite a few matches at RFK and always stay in Crystal City. I found the Americana Hotel a couple of years ago, and now it's my choice of accommodations in the area. I looked into renting bikes last trip and may do that next time.

It's a pretty simple trip from CC to RFK. Taking his video in reverse, go to the right after the big bridge -- you'll have the Jefferson on your left when you do -- then follow around that to due North. You'll hit the Mall, then head towards the Capitol, go up and around, then make your way to East Capitol St., etc etc. You can figure it out from there.

Cool! I work in Crystal City, but I come up from the south and take a left on Crystal Drive (where you took a right and stopped at the Crystal City sign).

I used lived in the DC area in the mid-90s but wasn't a cyclist then. Now, I'm married, have a kid, live in the District, and do probably 90% of my trips via bike. In fact, when I came "scouting" this past March for housing/interviews for a week I didn't step foot in a car - I flew into Reagan with a folder and a small piece of luggage. Also, to echo what someone else said here about getting to RFK...very easy, we've been to a couple of DC United matches and gotten their via bike. You don't have to pay the $15 parking fee, and you can lock your bike up right outside the gate. Just don't bring a traditional backpack, they won't let you in with them. However, "stringy" backpacks are fine.
