My new ride
Been debating between a golf cart or bike for recreational transportation down here in FL. Would you believe I picked up my new Long Haul Trucker today. Stuck working while it sits locked in my truck. I bought a complete bike in blue but had the saddle replaced with a B17, pedals are SPD, and a cateye computer. It is my first bike like this since I got a Huffy Santa Fe(???) 30 years ago. Will take some pics and post them tomorrow.

Now you just need to figure out a way to hook your golf bag on a rack, and you're set.

Did you happen to live in Lincoln, RI at the time mine got stolen from the same place. Well my parents and not yours. I ended up with a Kick N Go I think. I wish they had the Internet back then so those kids would weigh about 250 lbs and watching porn instead of stealing lovely Santa Fe's.

Well I put about 30 miles on it today and it is sweet. Think I may need to raise the bars a bit and tilt the saddle up a little also. Oh yeah the Brooks saddle was way more comfortable than I thought it would be for the first time out. Now I have to buy a rear rack and something to hold some rods and gear. I am thinking about those metal collapsible baskets. I think the company is Wald. Now I'll try and figure out how to post a pic(s).

Yours does need a rack, and maybe some fenders. Bikes, especially good touring bikes like the LHT, just look naked to me without a a rear rack and some fenders. Wald does make those collapsible metal baskets.
Love the bike. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on the new ride! and an excellent choice.
Judging by the pics, I'd agree that your saddle nose may need to come up a tad; but that's up to you and how it feels under your but/ on your wrists. I'm positive that a rear rack will allow for the attachment of fishing rods, with a little home engineering, and possibly a couple of beers while staring at it.
Pardon my hijacking here, but I've got the same bike with the same computer and I notice that your sensor is mounted way lower on the fork than mine; can anyone tell me if it matters? I thought the magnet was supposed to be as close to the outside (rim) as possible to match the diameter of the wheel...
I agree with EKW, at least on the fenders. Saddle/handlebar bags work for me though.

I have a pair of those Wald baskets (got mine used) and I have just one mounted on my commuter. I like it alot actually and other than they have a decent amount of weight to them and rattle a bit they are handy. You could haul alot of stuff with 2 of them. I have never even had any fishing equipment so maybe this isn't worthwhile, but a cheap lightweight golf bag from a thrift store might be handy to put them in and then put in your basket. People buy cheap used golf bags for all kinds of interesting purposes I have learned from selling the extras I had lying around.

The seat does need to come up a bit I agree with you. I almost went with flat bars but I am glad I didn't. Going from my other bike the shifters are taking a bit to get use to. I weigh 235 and I am 5'11" and the bike rides smooth as anything. The bike feels "solid" if you know what I mean. I can't wait to dress it up a bit but it won't be for a couple of months...ice fishing season is soon to be on it's way. I will post some pics once I get it dressed up a bit. I just can't believe what a difference it is from my Cannondale Bad Boy.

Congrats on the bike. I have one myself, and I love her to death.
I'd advise getting rid of that coil lock and going for at least a U. You don't want to get that beauty stolen

I know about the lock I just had that one and use it to lock it up in my locked garage. I am going to pick up another lock when I order racks, water bottle cage, etc.

LHT's are GREAT BIKES. Here's mine:
I'm a big guy too, at 245 and 6-1. I was really afraid of buying one of those super lightweight carbon-fiber jobbies and having it explode under me when I hit a pothole or something. I really love the bar-end shifters.

Yeah good decision (golf cart? ugh...) and good choice. Good to have another cyclist out there! All the best and enjoy the rides. BTW, might consider a Surly Big Dummy for that kayak

Well I decided to head down to Florida for a couple of weeks so I am going to buy accessories for my new purchase sooner rather than later. Starting out with the Wald baskets, water bottle cages, seat bag, pump/tools. Will post some pics when I get it done.

Sweet setup. Good thing you are stopping in Bangor once you get past Bangor there is a lot of climbing to do. I go to the New Brunswick border fishing and it is a struggle to pull my boat up some of those hills.

now I live in Brooklyn NY its a great place to ride here too, but I still miss getting taunted by kids from bristol calling me "barry boy!".
