later sunsets...finally

Seems on Monday, Dec. 13th the sun started setting later in the day. Still have to wait until January for sunrise to start earlier. I'll take what I can get! Now just have to deal with 18F commutes:thumb:

Depends where you're at of course, but the earliest sunset in my area was Dec 6 at 16:49.

That's interesting. I'd always though that both the earliest sunset and the latest sunrise would occur on winter solstice. Turns out sunset up here doesn't start getting later until Dec. 20, when we go from 3:40 pm to 3:41 pm. Sunrise, on the other hand, keeps coming on later until Dec. 26.

I think you mean 16:49, unless your graph is off by two hours and sunset was actually at 2:49 pm.

Interesting. I didn't realize both sunrise and sunset don't "turn the corner" at the solstice. NOAA shows something similar for Boulder at

I think this is the effect of position within the timezone. At least mostly. The sun is directly overhead at noon only at one longitude while the timezone covers about a 15 degree range.

I'll be happy at the end of January when sunset is about 530pm in SoCal.

I don't care when it sets, as long as it comes out from behind the clouds to say hello once in a while. (Actually, we've had an extremely mild Fall this year: not too wet, plenty warm and always pleasantly rideable.)

Yep, I checked my sunset chart, I've gained a full minute. ;)
