2011 Soho DLX Arrived

I picked up my 2011 Soho DLX the other day. I have only gotten to ride it once so far, but it seemed a very nice ride. The disc brake seems to work fine, it had plenty of stopping power. It is very quiet and very smooth ride so far. I am not used to sitting so upright but it is a position I am sure I can get used to. Before I received it, I wasn't sure what to think of the hardcase 2 tires, but they look pretty nice. They have more tread than I would have thought and they seem to handle well. The saddle seems like a good compromise between the huge over-stuffed cruiser saddles and the very narrow racing type saddles.

It looks like it is time to give the old Trek 7600 multitrack a rest for now. It is a great bike, but it was developing some issues in the rear hub. I am very fond of it though, I may fix it back up for a future beater ride.

built one of these up a week or so ago. the front brakes are awful. low end shimano mech brakes suck. mushy feel. pads lopsided inside the caliper. make sure the belt tension is set correctly

You are probably not talking about the DLX but the regular Soho (which i have, and which has weak brakes). The DLX replaced the front roller with a disc

I don't have a lot of reference points regarding disc breaks. The only other disc brakes that I have used were on my Trek 4300 and they were also mechanical. I would say they are as good, or better, than those brakes. They seem more than sufficient for the task at hand, as I did buy the bike as a commuter. I put another 26 miles on it today and was pleased with the handling and ride. The LBS that built it up did a great job and the belt seems to have plenty of tension. All in all, I am still very pleased with it.

I recently picked up a DLX too. The front disc brake can be a bit finnicky to adjust, but works just fine.

Did any other owners of this bike notice that the front tire is not exactly centered in the middle of the fender? I reseated both the tire and the fender, but the tire seems to inevitably want to sit slightly towards the right edge of the fender. Doesn't seem to cause any functional problems, but ideally I'd like the tire to be centered inside the fender to get maximum coverage.

Mine seems to be centered very close to exact. I have a pretty good eye and if it is off, I can't see it.
