Dangit, back to the drawing board.

So I wanted a more solid rack than my seatpost unit. I got one and was able to attach it using p-clamps, but now the bags won't work. In fact, I don't think most bags will work. The short chainstays+larger frame (longer seat tube) mean that the front part of the rack is seriously one and a half to two inches away from the seatstays. There is serious overlap with my LG beta-46 bags. I also have size 11-12 feet, so this doesn't help.

So any recommendations for bags that can hold about the equivalent of the LG bags, but are designed to give as much heel clearance as possible?

look at some racks like Old Man Mountain that , for disc brakes
set behind the axle more, (to clear the caliper)
mount on the QR of the axle for their bottom mount..
then you create a much Longer strut for the top
to move the whole rack Backwards, and the bags you have May work..

Or, Tubus Racks have extra parts and they make longer struts too,
to set their racks back further,

The Tubus Logo Rack has a lower set back bag location rail

with use of that + rack support kit,
+ they ... with Ortlieb Bags having their bag hooks
in adjustment slots in the top rail ,
can be set up to be shifted well back ..
when you hang them on the rack.

I just recommended the Tubus Lower Rack Mounting Kit to another poster that I think fietsbob was alluding to. That plus the recommendations fietsbob made sounds like it should help a lot.

Some racks have longer top rails than others, which would allow you to slide panniers rearward.

I believe JandD makes an exceptionally long rear rack. Combine with Tubus mounts and you can gain a couple inches of foot clearance.

Can you not adjust the mounting system on that pannier? On my Ortliebs I have to move the clips way forward (effectively pushing the pannier towards the rear) to avoid heel strike on various bikes.

Thanks for the input, all. I'll put up some pictures tomorrow to show what I'm talking about, but it's some serious, serious overlap. I may have to go with the Jannd Expedition someone mentioned or just stick with my seatpost mount. Going with the tubus mounting setup will only give me a few inches and that just won't be enough. Also, I don't think the top part of the LG bags can be moved, but I'll see if it's possible to remove them and drill another set of holes. I could mount them more forward and maybe even higher. That might be a plan.

Anyhow, thanks again and will try to post pics tomorrow.

This one fixed my heel strike problem. Axiom actually makes another one that is made specifically for this purpose too.

As promised, here are some pictures of the setup and an illustration of the massive heel/half of my foot overlap.

I checked out the mounting hooks and they do slide fore and aft, but only so much. No vertical adjustment is available and the hook assembly is riveted on. I would have to do a good bit of work to move them.

I'm wondering if I move the rack higher up and the bags as far back as possible would work at all. I have the rack in the lowest possible position, so while raising it would bring the bag closer, it would also give some clearance on the bottom side. That and when I move the bags back, I'm not putting the load out past the rear axle.
