Today was warm, about 50ish(F) but a bit 'drizzly'. This week I'm tryign to do 5/5 commutes and today was my first day commuting in the rain. Granted...it's only like a little over a mile ride lol. I came up with something to make the ride even better though. I used to play my 90's jams on Pandora on my way in to work in the car. Well I decided to do the same thing on my bike and just put my phone in chest pocket and turned the volume up enough so I could hear it while riding. Made the ride even better...fealt great when I got to work. There is nothing better than starting your day off with 90's songs...nothing

Been a while... not since I commuted, but since I've posted. Still commuting daily, just too busy between work, grad school and a pregnant wife to post.

I had a nice ride in this morning, esp. considering I did it on less than 3 hours sleep (end of the semester assignments due). I took it easy and relatively slow, but it was good to get the blood flowing. Sunny and dry with a temp around 30.

Looking fwd to the ride home... I'll get to try out my StemCaptain thermometer for the first time (having given up on the compass after remembering high school physics enough to realize my steel frame bike was keeping the compass from working. Then hopefully I'll get to catch up on some sleep. Zzzzzzz...

Today was awesome!
40*, light rain, no wind.
I used my "new" commuter bike in anger for the first time. It was good! The only two issues I had were the coaster brake needs to be dialed in a little, and the rear wheel needs to be trued up better.
The wheel is at the bike store now, so there you go.
Looks like I got the gear ratio dialed in perfectly. I can power up all of the hills on my route, I have enough torque to get a decent start from the light, and the gears are tall enough to keep me cranking along nicely on the flats and downhills.
This bike is super light and responsive compared to my other bikes.

The trip home gave me a painful reminder of why long underwear and bicycles don't mix.

The ride back in this evening was a very nice temperature.

Both ways, today, I felt sluggish, especially on the way home this morning. This morning, the extra time it took me to get home supports how i felt. This evening, I pegged my average, so I must have been feeling better, though it still felt like I was working harder for the same speeds.

42 Degrees before sunrise this morning, streets were a little wet from an overnight rain. This morning a first: The entire trip in, I encountered no cars at all, except for seeing a few in the distance. The streets were all mine! The ride home there was a bit of a tailwind, but not enough to push me along without pedaling.

Great commutes today.

20F and dawn to partly cloudy with no wind on this morning's commute in. Started off the ride with a face mask. It worked great, but I actually took it off about 1/3 into the commute because it was too hot. I also couldn't drink my tea with it on. It was excellent with my glasses. The only time they fogged up was when I stopped. As soon as I started going, they defogged.

46F and sunny with mainly crosswinds from the N @ 9-11mph this afternoon. My chain was not feeling very smooth. It actually hasn't for a while now. I'm gonna try re-lubing it again to see if that fixes it. If not, I plan to stop by the LBS for some new chain or order it online tomorrow.

The last hill coming home was tough. Eventually I realized that my rear brake was binding so I could pop the QR on it to keep going to get my daughter from her after-school thing. Will look at it tomorrow to see what the problem was. The wheel might have shifted in the dropout?

At -6C is was another warm day, but very grey as it was yesterday.

The more I commute the more I seem to spot little trends.

Today I was approaching an intersection to make a left turn and I suspect the person approaching from the other direction deliberately didn't signal their right turn so that I wouldn't be in front of them. I've seen people do this several times, but not very often.

Daytime running lights have been mandatory in Canada long enough that virtually all the cars on the road should have them. But I've been seeing (more like barely seeing) several vehicles (mostly trucks) every day that should have them, but don't. It would seem many people are going out of their way to disable safety items on their vehicles.

Just recover from a really bad cold for almost 2 weeks, it felt so nice to be back on the bike again. Temperature was in the upper 20s when I left the house. I used my booties for the first time and what a pitta to put that sucker on but boy that thing is warm, too warm.

Today and yesterday it has been raining in my area. Yesterday I rode in not caring too much about the rain. However, on my ride home my chain slipped of the gear . Can anyone tell me if this could have been in part due to the rain? Or is it just that I'm new to riding and might have changed gears wrong? I was at a light and about half way through I changed from my 1st front gear to my 2nd front gear (3x8) and that is when the chain hopped off. It was easy to put it back on and I continued my ride but this was the first time this happened so I could use some insight as to why. Other than that the ride in and ride home yesterday was good, but I drove in today because I have an appt. that I will have to drive to this afternoon. Anywhoo....any tips on my chain issue or just proper gear changing would be greatly appreciated from you more experienced riders. Thanks

Beautiful weather this morning, easy riding harmonious with traffic, pedestrians and critters in their respective venues, everything as it should be. This is my fourth winter commuting and somehow, by far the easiest.

That's happened to me, or the wheel got out of true. Or the caliper got torqued over and need to loosen and adjust it.

Felt sluggish today for some reason. Decided to minimize my exposure to rush hour traffic, especially on the way home at night. In the morning there are virtually no cars on the road since I start work early but the way home can be a nightmare. From now on I'll go into work through the city but at night I'll take the MUP along the river.

Took out my folding bike instead of road bike (wanted fender), didn't realize how slow I was riding... missed the train by 20 seconds and had to wait for next 30 minutes in 36F... Other than that... very ... maybe too much... relaxing nice ride.

Today a bit warmer at 41 degrees. Should stay that way all day with clouds. Some rain moving in tonight which should warm things up. I'll have to wear a rain jacket for the first time in two weeks. That stretch is unheard of this time of year!

Sad find in bike lane near my house. Someone's cat was hit by a car. I had to move it out of the bike lane (it was a big, healthy tabby). No collar so I couldn't call anyone and it was only 6:30 so couldn't bring it to the vet office (plus there's no way to transport it!). I did post the info on a local blog that helps people find missing pets so hopefully someone can claim it.

cool and damp - 28F (-2C) with light snow. I finally put the Nokians (studded tires) on last night - it felt good to hear those carbide studs buzzing on the wet/icy/snowy streets once again. I truly love winter commuting.

Added a loop around Central Park to my commute today. I love whipping along with the recreational riders in full kit on their carbon fiber as I roll along in street clothes with my backpack and trunk rack on my little folder. Dropping them on the hill up by 125th is always such kick- glad I was only doing 1 loop though- would have been hard pressed to do that on a second lap.

Wonderful weather, yes??

Awesome commutes today.

35F and partly cloudy with mainly light crosswinds from the N @ 2mph on the commute in. Made great time probably because I was pushing myself a little more than usual to try to avoid being late to my class. Had to cut through a parking lot because one of my normal commute roads was blocked due to construction. I was able to bypass the block via the parking lot.

44F and partly cloudy with mainly light headwinds from the E @ 4mph on the afternoon commute home. Took a slightly different way because I wasn't sure if that road would still be blocked off at the time. Came across a few kids and one had his hand out. At first I thought he wanted to ask a question, so started to slow down. As I approached, he yelled out "high five", so I gave him one and then continued on my way. About 3 miles left of the ride, I got a bad cramp in my right hamstring. I think it was because of not drinking enough water.

44F/7C(!) with an apocalyptic tailwind. Unfortunately that's going to be a headwind for the ride home.

This is the weirdest autumn in recent memory, weather-wise. I keep wondering when the other shoe is going to drop, if ever.

Fast commute this morning riding one of my quicker, lighter bikes. I've felt like I was in a commuting rut lately, averaging just about the same time and speed every day. My commute distance increased from 22 to 30 miles round trip in October, with a bunch of hills and traffic lights in the last 3 miles, which has really slowed my average speeds. My legs were fresh after driving yesterday, so I decided to kick it up a notch this morning and made it to work about 8 minutes faster than I have been lately -- even though I got absolutely no help from the traffic lights. The wind is supposed to shift to the SW this afternoon, which means I should have tailwinds for much of the ride home this afternoon. The high temp is supposed to reach about 70 F, so I should make good time riding home as well.
