TREK 7500FX VS. Specialized Sirrus range

I'm planning to buy a bike which I'll use every day for commuting and sometimes on weekends for 50 - 70 KM rides. At the moment cosidering my budget (between $ 600 - $ 700) it seems like its gonna be between TREK and Specialized and more particularly the 7500FX and one of the Sirrus range.

Can anyone give hints on which should be the winner?
Has anyone tried to fix on 35mm nobies on the Sirrus plus mudguards and it worked? I'd like to not go around on 28mm tyres considering the road I take.

thankx

There are lots of threads on this subject. Search for Sirrus in the titles only and in the Commuting Forum only.
