Ooops, I didn't notice they were out-of-stock. Here's one that's in stock:

https://www.amazon.com/Apex-Mountain-...8786080&sr=1-1

More expensive, but still reasonable in the big picture. It's no fun having a muddy stripe up your back when arriving at work

Gas price ($1.50 AUD) is part of the reason. The other is parking prices and unreliable buses. A bike is just so convenient.

Gas is around $3.35 in Colorado. The price of gas has very little to do with the fact that I bike commute every day. I have a Golf TDI (Diesel) that get over 40 MPG, let call it 40 MPG to be conservative. Diesel is a little more expensive than gas, let's say $4/gal. My commuting distance to/from work is about 5000 miles/year, so let's do the math:

5000 miles/year / 40 mpg = 125 gallons diesel/year
$4 x 125 = $600

Even if the fuel used to be free, my added cost is only $600/year. That is certainly not enough money to cause me to ride to work if it wasn't something I already wanted to do.

I ride to work, because I enjoy it. I would do it even if it was more expensive than driving.

$7.79 in Geneva, Switzerland. Not as bad as London, though.

Gas is just under $3.50/gallon here. I drive about once a week, but my wife has been driving my truck and left it with an empty tank. $65 to fill it for the the little I've driven it recently.

I haven't noticed more people bike commuting, but I have heard that bus usage is up.

$3.25 - $3.40 per gallon here. I haven't noticed a lot of other riders here lately, but winter has been pretty rough here, and it's a pretty small town. But I'm sure there will be more people on bikes when the snow goes away.

If you drive a sports car that needs high octane, filling up hurts... regular 87 octane is $3.30 now, 93 is $3.65+

I ride cause I love it. Even with 93 octane I only spend about $550 a year in gas for the car.

It's hit between $3.12 and 3.29 (Kroger to Shell / BP). Crossville, TN. Bike's in current state of disrepair. But, I already run / walk everywhere or combine store trips with drop / pick the kids up from school trips so. . . there's no tangible benefit to increasing the bike usage versus car usage.

The only think I dread is we have a meeting at the office in Nashville Monday. No way to ride a bike for that 113 mile one way commute. Then again, we had 6 weeks of daily during the summer of 2007 when it got to $4 something and we survived-- barely.

Today in VA it's $3.29/gal and climbing. I prefer to commute in warmer weather but may start riding sooner this season. I just changed jobs a few months ago and my commute went from 8 miles to 15 miles one way. I added new rack and larger panniers and just orders fenders from LBS and awaiting them to come in.

Gas was about $3.20 and then later last week jumped to $3.29. I haven't been commuting much because of weather, laziness and also some back issues, but saving over a $1 each time I ride to work is some added motivation from here on out. Its supposed to get more expensive so I imagine my wife will start riding more and the few bikes I have left to put together and sell that are in my basement will not last long on Craigslist.

$3.39/gal yesterday when I filled up the car. I have to do that every month or month and a half since I drive my car on the weekends some.

I'd commute anyway, even if it was $.39/gal

£1.33/litre is $8.11/gallon at current exchange rates.

Edit: Just for clarity, when Americans refer to price per gallon, they're referring to US gallons (3.785 liters) not the UK imperial gallon (4.546 liters).

Our gallons are smaller than yours. An Imperial gallon is roughly 5 U.S. quarts.

A U.S. gallon is about 3.8 litres, so 3.8*1.33*$1.6= $8.09/gallon.

By the way, looking at those European and UK prices should be a reality check for some American cycling advocates. Bike roadshare will increase if our gas prices climb back towards $5, but there are still plenty of private cars on the other side of the Atlantic at gas prices twice U.S. levels.

$3.49/gallon as of yesterday afternoon; cost almost $70 to fill my tank
I can't really say that I ride because of the fuel price going up; but when prices get stupid high, it does make it easier to roll out of bed early on those days when I'm dragging and would rather sleep the extra hour that my bike commute takes.

In Kitchener Waterloo regular gasoline is sitting at about $1.20 a litre which translates into $4.55 a US gallon or $5.46 for an imperial gallon.

The American consumer gets screwed again being shortchanged on volume.

this is true, and higher prices can have a bad effect on driver irritability among those that are predisposed to it. Around here, there is a huge migration into town in the morning and a corresponding outflow at night. Those people don't have any choice but to drive. They might figure out how to carpool, but that doesn't seem real likely either.

The best part about not owning a car is I don't even worry about gas prices anymore
I think Philadelphia is around 3.70 a gallon right now, but I never look at the gas prices these days.

$3.45. Wow. Getting Close to California prices
