I'd Like To Add A Kickstand To My Commuter

I've been thinking about adding a Greenfield SKS-2 kickstand to my commuter. It has 700 x 25 tires (and the frame is not equipped with a bracket for a kickstand on the chainstays right behind the BB).

This kickstand comes in two sizes:
SKS2B 285 mm, Polyester Powder Coat Black

SKS2-305B - 305 mm, Polyester Powder Coat Black

I'm presuming that, with the 700 x 25 tires I would need the larger size. Is this correct?

Also, and maybe more important, has anyone tried this stand? Does it work OK?

1. Don't have one, but I believe that there are others here that do use the Stabilizer kickstand. If my bottom bracket one ever fails again, I'll looking to try a Stabilizer out myself.
2. Why not just contact Greenfield and ask them?

Here's an opportunity to put those rusty geometry skills to use. If you figure a 700c wheel has a diameter of 622mm, the radius would be about 311mm. You need to add the height of the tire too, but then you have to subtract the thickness of the chainstay, figure out what the 305mm is actually measuring, and know the angle of the kickstand. At that point, you'll know what length you'll want.

Or you could just get the big one and cut off what you don't need.

I looked on their website, and although they listed the lengths, they didn't give a chart by wheel size. You think they would.

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered the 305mm on the basis of the fact that 700c wheels are pretty tall, and if it's too long a hacksaw will fix it.

I don't know about the black ones, but I know the plain metal ones are designed to be cut down to length.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but was the 305mm too long? Would the 285mm have worked? I'm just about to order one for my bike as well.

Hope this helps someone down the road...

I ordered the 285mm version for my 700c Tricross... too short. The lean angle was too steep and it wasn't stable. Upon further research I found that the 285mm is for 26" tire bikes (due to the distance from ground to rear axle). The 305mm is for 700c bikes. Just ordered the longer unit which I'm sure will work.

I was thinking about this same one cos it got average 4 star reviews on amazon and is the most affordable one but I was thinking a 2 leg kickstand would be more dependable. The Civia and Plestcher models look especially sturdy. Maybe it's just the brand name, though...thoughts?
