First Commute Today!
Well I pulled it off! 27.41 miles each way! Somehow I also got snaked into doing a partial lunch ride. I branched off from the group and I'm glad I did. I was kicking myself the last 10 miles on the way home for going out to lunch.
I estimate I saved $10 dollars on gas + turnpike tolls. However I ate two extra cliff bars so I guess I "saved" $8... I plan on getting in shape enough to do this 3 times a week (if possible more).
I think the calories estimated from HR seem a little off - 13,000+ calories?!?
I'm going to be dead tomorrow but it was completely worth it .
Link to gps data.

You go Omen7288!! I only have 4-5 miles one way. Sometimes I stretch it to 7 if I take a round-about way. Been doing it for 3 years and lost 30 lbs. Haven't really calculated my cost savings. I just enjoy it now. I find that I get cranky and irritable if I don't ride to work. Keep it up!

Excellent, keep it up! I know I'm in my best moods at work when I've had a good ride in on the bike... always feels better than sitting in traffic!
As for the calories burned, it does seem a bit high. I assume ~700 cal/hr on a good workout, so you're probably closer to 3000 calories or so. Substantially higher than the amount you would have expended whilst commuting by car...

Wow! Congrats!
I figure I am burning something like 500 to 750 calories per hour commuting, just a guess. www.caloriesperhour.com puts me at more like 1000 per hour, but I think once your body gets used to riding it operates a lot more efficiently.
