Right, call me an anorak....

but today I decided to see how many times I changed gear on my 13 mile commute. Remember this is the east side of Scotland, not the plains of Nebraska.

Anyway, counting each time I changed at rear or front, I changed gear 58 times in 13 miles. My route is a bit undulating, with the last bit in Edinburgh partly on old train routes/cyclepaths.
However, as Edinburgh itself is built on hills, even here I'm having to change a bit.

Multiply that over 18 years of cycling on this bike and one can be amazed that my Campag levers, front mech and Huret duopar rear mech have been faultless. The only thing I've had to change have been jockey wheels and the cable to the rear mech.

I think I've got a new hobby... sad isn't it. (I wonder how many times I brake on the way home)

Hey chewa, you're an anorak! (you did ask for it)

Next you'll be counting pedal strokes and installing a palm pilot on your bike to tally the results and produce bar charts.

...

ahem... sorry. I'll go back to popping my saddle sores now.
