Got Super Soakered

College age punks driving a jeep super soakered (big squirt gun for those that aren't familiar with super soakers) me at a light.. light turns green and they shot me with water. So I mashed it hard (was on my fixie) and chased them down. I don't think they knew how quickly a bike can go when you get on the pedals. I caught up pretty fast, but I guess they got scared. They moved into the opposite lane, passed two cars at a red light, in a no passing zone and ran the red. I was gonna squeeze my whole water bottle in the passenger window. If a cop would've seen them at that light, that would've made it all worth it, but oh well.. never around when you need 'em.

..and since someone will ask, no I didn't get a plate, and no use reporting it. I saw 4 other Jeeps that looked exactly the same on the rest of my ride home, none with college punks.. and I was really staring in them to see. Probably creeped out the drivers.. heh..

At least the water was cool, I was a little hot from climbing a hill.

You got a car full of college punks so scared of a guy riding his bike that they panicked, changed lanes and ran a red. Excellent! (Except for the running of the red light, which could have had a bad ending.)

Hopefully they've learned their lesson.

Was it a camera intersection? I would be great to at least think they'll get a ticket in the mail.

At least you didn't wind up in the hospital this time. BTW, how are you doing after that 'episode'?

I was really pissed and had some adrenalin pumping for a while, but I'm fine now.. Riding in L.A. you kinda have to learn to let things that are out of your control go pretty quickly or it'll either drive you insane, or you'll be too scared to go anywhere on a bike.

That happens to me in Columbus. L.A. would probably kill me the first day.

Been there. Done that. Only it was a carload of city boys who threw a beer bottle at me. Caught them at the next light in a line of cars and cracked the guy on the elbow w/my u-lock as I went by. They tried to chase me, but I was able to avoid them by cutting in and out of alleys. This happened in Chicago many years ago. They'd catch me these days...

Well, I wouldn't recommend that. Squirting water on someone would most likely not be considered a crime. However, hitting someone with a U lock would be, even if it was in retaliation for them squirting water on you.

Bingo. Sucks that you couldn't catch them, but at least you scared the crap out of them. That's at least somewhat satisfying!

I didn't get soaked, but I was shot with a pellet gun by a carload of teens. I didn't stick around to get a license plate at the time, since they turned around in order to try and shoot at me again. Fortunately I was wearing some thick rain gear at the time, and the pellet just deflected off it.

I notified local authorities, but not much that they could do without any hard evidence, but I was gratified to read in our local paper, a few months later, that a teen was arrested for shooting his pellet gun at a neighbor's house, and that particular incident happen to occur only a couple of blocks away from where my incident occurred.

I wish I had my current camcorders at that time, I would have been able to get them turned in, who knows how many other people were shot by these teens.

You've got me thinking now.... If squirting water isn't a crime, can we carry squirt guns for rude drivers?

Somehow I'm not sure if a super soaker would really upset me much (especially on a warm day). If jackass college students are going to be out playing pranks, a water gun is a lot better than paintballs, eggs, etc.

Way to put some fear in them by chasing them down, though!

Sorry that happened bhop, but I would still report it. Unlikely the LAPD would do anything but still at least have some kind of report in. I believe its considered a battery and since you were riding in traffic maybe a felony charge.

I know the adrenaline is pumping but try to get the license plate #. I do wish you would have caught up to them though.

At minimum it's disorderly conduct. It could be considered assault. At worst it's deadly conduct since the water could cause the biker to crash and suffer serious bodily injury or death.

I guess I should have put a smiley on the end of that. Even without legal issues, I wouldn't want a driver to retaliate for squirting them with water.

Years ago there were a couple of hoodlums driving around squirting people with bleach water. Idiots.

Yeah sorry that was more of a reply to the general question of whether it's a crime to squirt a biker.

I was once super-soakered on my bike, but it was a couple of kids, around 10 years old. It was a warm Saturday, I was in shorts and t-shirt. They got me as I rode past them on a bike path. No big deal. I smiled and said "Hey!" They laughed, I rode on and dried off pretty quickly. But college age guys shooting from a car out in the street? Yeah, those are pretty much idiots.
