I don't like the idea of wrapping a "gas inflator" around my neck. Incredibly stylish though...

Here is some video of some of the crash testing they've done on this product. It is a rather interesting idea...but, I kinda like my helmet honestly.

That's wonderful, unless you hit your head before that thing inflates.

very Swedish ... we talked about these when I lived in Stockholm. It's really cool idea and does prevent helmet hair and looks like a scarf which gives it bonus points ... this is a big deal there because most people just commute to work in their business clothing.

I love how they did the testing with a Swedish city bike and a SAAB 9-5

Where the F150 side veiw mirror to the back of the head test, the thrown beer bottle and the low hanging branch test? Ohh yeah it would fail those so lets not show those common independents.
I'll pass and stick with my proactive low tech protection.

I kind of like having helmet hair, and I also like when my hair sticks through the holes of the helmet and waves in the wind.

While I appreciate the technology and attempt to "normalize" bicycling, there are certain things that should be basic, and have a lower possibility of failure. A normal helmet is always on, so you don't have to worry about whether it will deploy at all, on top of making sure that the scarf-thing is situated properly such that it will inflate in a functional way. I personally would not feel safe with this, but if you are in a situation where it's this or no helmet, I'd certainly choose this. It all depends on your priorities I guess.

Whats the point in having an open-face air-bagmet...so you can see during impact? What if the bag gets snagged on something on its way up-over your head?
call me when they make a full body air-bag.

At what length will people go to try to look 'cool?' Honestly, that doesn't look like a scarf, it looks like a big weird black thing with zippers around your neck. Maybe its just the Portland coming out in me, but when I see someone with a helmet on, I think it looks cool, not dorky. And when I see someone without a helmet, it makes them look immature and makes me think they're an amateur cyclist. Take that Sweden. Maybe you should make something that makes it look like you're not wearing clothes until someone creepy looks at you.

+1 Plus what happens if on the day you get hit you forgot to check the battery and at the golden momment the battery is flat? I don't get a warm fuzzy relying on something battery powered for my safety. It's too big a failure point.

Dainese makes an airbag jacket for motorcyclists. There are several videos out there. Jacket is a bit too heavy for bicycle use, though.

I would not want to wear that in the summer.
the idea is pretty cool and watching the video was hilarious.

Decades of scientific research * showed that there are only three ways to eliminate The Helmet Hair:

1) Eliminate the helmet
2) Eliminate the hair
3) Eliminate both

* No animals were hurt during the research.

lulz!
It would be pretty funny if they made a version that covered up the entire head.
Then, as a prank, come up behind them and whack the device with a stick!
hahahahahahahaha!
