I am 6'4" and am having a tall step-through frame (top tube parallel to down tube) built up and want to make sure I have cable guides in the proper places for the rear disc brake and internal hub.

The rear disc brake will be on the seat stay not the chain stay so cable routing might be tricky on the step through frame. A chain stay mount is not an option for this build. I want to use a mechanical disc brake, not hydraulic. All cables will be in full housings to protect them from weather.

The frame will have a support brace similar to the image below.


But the dimensions will be closer to this sketch but with a straight top tube.



I assume the cable from a rear disc brake starts going up the seat stay and then travels along the top tube but since my frame is tall there will be quite a gap between the top of the seat stay and the intersection of the seat tube and top tube. A severe bend in the cable isn't ideal nor is having the cable hang in mid air across the rear wheel.

Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks.


I also want to put cable guides or hangers for my lighting wiring. Has anyone has this built into a custom frame? What worked for you?

Why should cable actuation prevent you mounting the brake on the chainstay. It is the best option from the point of rack/fender mounting and cable routing.

I agree, but the builder does not have that option in dropout selection, so at the price I can afford it is on the seat stay or no disc brake tabs.
