New York City Metropolitan Commuters-I need your help

No, I don't work but just go to conferences. Am going to a conference in Manhattan and want to bring my bicycle. I will be near central park and can cycle in the morning. The final challenge is to get me and my bicycle to Goldens Bridge in Westchester via Metro North. Can one take a bicycle on the commuter train?

Thanks in advance.

You can take a bike on the Metro-North trains only during off-hours. During rush hours bikes are not allowed on the trains. Also, a bike permit is required: http://www.mta.info/bike/

The permit is only $5, it's life-time and you should be able to buy one at any station. It looks like a ticket, so easy to lose too
