Masi Speciale CX vs. Surly Cross Check

Hey Everyone,

I have been searching for a new bike for some long distance commuting, 30+ miles. I have it narrowed down to two options and I can't make a decision because I don't see that big difference besides style and a little bit of weight.

So here they are:
Masi Speciale CX
Surly Cross Check

You are right they are pretty similar so you should buy the one that speaks to you.

I was faced with the same decision. I ended up going with the Cross Check because it was about $100 cheaper, and I preferred the aesthetics. I also appreciated the versatility offered by the Cross Check's horizontal dropouts. Generally, either one would do the same job pretty equally well.

I have the Masi and love it. If riding them both doesn't make the decision you could decide by shifters. The Surly has bar ends and the Masi has the shifters in the brakes.

The Masi is prettier.

This is how I would judge them. I for once greatly prefer brifters on a commuter. Maybe not on a cross country tour, but DEFINITELY in traffic

My Cross Check has brifters I agree the Masi is a much nicer looking bike, but I haven't ridden one to offer any advice on it.
