Specialized Cirrus Sport
I'm thinking of buying one.
I've been searching on the board, but I can't find very many posts regarding this bike, and no posts are newer than 2009. Does anyone have one of these they're using for commuting? How do you feel about it? Is it a "good choice" for a commuter ride? The bike will take fenders and a rear rack, so I'm good there. I'm currently doing a 4.5mi, each way, commute but I'd hoping to do the entire 11mi, each way, commute someday. I took one for a test ride yesterday at a local shop. It wasn't as smooth as my Cro-Moly Diamondback Topanga, but it wasn't awful either. It was a better fit than my current bike, though still a bit small, and my perceived effort while moving was far, far less than I currently deal with. So, I'm probably going to get it. The kicker is, I need an XL according to the fit guru. The shop, of course, doesn't stock anything in an XL. No demand they say. (Of course there's no demand if you don't stock it  ). They will order an XL for me, but they want a commitment from me up front. I don't want to commit unless I *know* it's going to fit. I'm 6'3" and 250lbs. So, I just want a little feedback from folks who ride, or have ridden, one of these as a commuter before I make a decision. Thanks all. :) |
It's a small world. I rode a Diamondback Topanga last year, and am riding a 2010 Sirrus Sport this year.
I'm 5' 10", 190 lbs, with long arms and a 33 1/2 inseam, and ride a size large Sirrus. It's a hair large, but the medium was definitely too small. I really like riding my Sirrus Sport on my 30 mile round trip commute. I works very well with a backpack. I did try using a rack with my Sirrus Sport, but had two problems. First, the bike looked kind of ugly with the rack on it. Second, the rack made the bike kind of twitchy. It's much less twitchy with the load on my back. Overall, my Sirrus Sport is a great bike. I've logged maybe 2000 miles on it since I bought it last summer. The only big component dislikes I've found are the cheapo pedals, the weird cone shaped steering tube spacer, and the oddly sized inner diameter on the end of the handlebar. But if you really want a flat bar road bike, the Sirrus line is awesome. I also use mine for a lot of recreational road riding, so the Sirrus Sport is a good fit for me. If you just want a hybrid commuter, I think the Trek FX line is probably better. The FX is less twitchy with a rear rack, and has a more standard spacer system, but is definitely not as nice looking, and not as fun for recreational rides. http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...rus/Sirrus.jpg |
Niiice. I'm trying to decide if I want the mat-black or the steal-me-screaming-yellow. I'm probably going to get the yellow one just so I can be "that guy" :D
I also see you added the power strap. I've been thinking about those or maybe a nice set of Shimano platform/clipless jobs. Time will tell on that. I'm digging the mat-black now . |
They discuss those a lot in the Hybrid forum. hths

I just got a 2010 a few weeks ago I've put 200 miles on it so far and I'm loving it! I've always ridden road bikes and I'm really liking riding sitting up It's fast and smooth.
