cleaning canari shell

I've got a canari shell in high visibility yellow. (Yes, I do look like a giant tennis ball rolling down the street on the way to work.) In the course of commuting it's gotten little traces of grease from when I've had to reset the chain, pop the front wheel, ...

I followed their instructions and put it through a wash cycle with no dryer. It doesn't look any better than before I washed it. They specify that it should not be dry cleaned.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get it cleaned up?

Thank you all.

Mark

Grease de-stabilizes from the right forms of detergent. Have you tried like Gojo, a tide pen, or something similar?

Try spot cleaning it with dishwashing soap. Use Nikwax to refurbish the DWR.

Washing in detergent usually destroys the water repellant finish. Washing in soap flakes is usually recomended for waterproofs and showerproofs. If you wash in detergent, rewash in soap then rinse in Nikwax or similar DWR.
You can dab on some grease emulsifying agent such as a mechanics hand cleanser before the wash but this is like a detergent wash.

I haven't hit with a tide pen yet, but I'll try that this weekend. Thank you very much for your response.

Thank you everybody for your responses. I'll try a couple of chemical solutions over teh weekend. I'm surprised that they tell you not to dryclean, though. I'd expect you need to be careful about which chemicals to use so I'll make careful note about which types of checmicals I use and I'll look fro the Nikwax to rewaterproof it.

Thanks, everybody.

I found my Nikwax at a sporting goods store. I was going to get it online but it was cheaper to buy it in town.
