It happened on the January 31st morning commute. The view was just updated recently (so, it took about 6 months).

Looking South on Fresno, approaching Nees. Note the Dinotte 400R in morning light is about as bright as the stoplight.

Fresno and Herndon.

That is a Light and Motion HID on the bar. I'm on a Specialized Globe (with a Nexus hub), and wearing a (long discontinued) Gill Adrenaline eVENTŪ jacket.

I passed a Google car on my commute a couple of weeks ago--suppose I'll have to check!

pretty cool! it's nice to see more bike commuters in the area. I live near Visalia, and I can definitely say streets like Herndon and Blackstone are scary.

Yeah, it is. If you use Google Street view as a survey, you'll see lots of really nice bike lanes and paths in Clovis and Fresno, but not so many commuters. I like it that this was in January, when cyclists are especially scarce.

Herndon and Blackstone are not for cyclists. This was on Fresno Street, which has space for a bike lane, but no official lane. I've been commuting on it for nearly 10 years with no problems.

I hope cyclists pop up in many, many Google Streetview pics to reinforce the message we belong on the streets just like the motorists.

haha, that is awesome. you're famous. your post got me thinking though...how are the google bicycle directions? You know when you plug in coordinates and you have the option to get car, ped, bus, or bicycle directions...anyone use them for new routes? or exploring new areas?

I find them lacking, at least for my area (almost no bike lanes anywhere). When trying to plot a route to work it would wildly detour to try to take as many MUP's as possible, as well as prioritizing biking down suburban streets and avoiding all major roads, adding a full 7 miles to the route. The actual commuting route I take is 19 miles, for reference, so it basically added 50% more to the ride. I think their algorithm is highly geared towards making routes for people who do not know how to ride vehicularly, possibly to prevent inexperienced people from killing themselves on the road and having their families sue google.

This is sad. The guy in this Google image
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=kennes...,42.93,,0,6.41

Is the guy that was killed about a mile from there by a drunk driver.
