Bell METRO Helmet

What do you think guys of this helmet made by Bell just for commuters:

https://www.bellbikehelmets.com/main/product/metro.html

With all the accesories it might just be the ticket!

We discussed this before and the best feature was the ability to attach a light on the back of the helmet. The light stays high where the motorist can see it. Plus it makes you look strange which is a plus for the cyclist.

Corsair, I just recieved the Bell Metro a few days ago. I ordered it from REI, along with the rain cover and "winterizing kit." It fits like a dream and I feel like a Kentucky Derby jockey wearing it. My only problem: there's no room on the back to put my "One Less Car" sticker.

I don't like it.
It's expensive, the mirror seems like a gimic and flimsy, not enough vents, plus it's great when you're upright but when you've got your head and body angled slightly down like I do or with your head in the wind, the blinker's aiming at sky.
I like planetbike's self righting helmet mount. No matter where my head is pointed, the blinker always points backwards.

I like it too. Finally a helmet that does NOT look like something
out of star wars that might get people to wear a bicycle helmet
everyday.

I just spoke to my guy at the LBS. He told me Bell is now shipping a Metro without all the attachment points for accessories. It's about 35% cheaper than the standard Metro. Anyone else hear about this?

Au contrair, I think you have to buy the acccesories separately, the helmet comes by itself at $ 69.00

I know accessories are sold separately. This is a Metro that you can't attach accessories to. It doesn't have the built in attachment points. My LBS guy is selling the standard Metro for $90 canadian. This new model, for $60 cdn.

Could it be this Bell Citi Commuter helmet for about $45? Looks like the Metro with a visor.

It is the Metro, at a bargain price. But I've been looking at the Bell Furio '03 for $ 39.99, not bad at all.

IMO: Way too expensive. Doesn't appear to have enough ventilation. Really the Metro is just as "fashion oriented" as the stupid swoopy alien stuff.

Could be. The LBS stock is supposed to come in today, so I'll have to pedal over and take a look.

I have the Metro, I really like the winterizing kit. It had enough ventilation this summer and the ear flaps work good at this time of year. I also purchased the mirror, which did break after I got it caught in a door. I did not buy the light, but I am thinking about it.

I agree it is expensive, but you get what you pay for, I haven't found another helmet like this.

I just picked this helmet up over the weekend. Did about 15miles (my normal commute) in it and found it very comfortable compared to my other Bell mtn bike helmet. Got the winterizing kit as a freebie since my LBS only had white and I wanted silver! Score!

I agree- otherwise you would be able to get the helmet in a safe high-visibility colour rather than the low key ones that are presently available

I'm considering ordering this from REI as well, but I am concerned about sizing. How accurate is the sizing chart listed online?

The web site says: Small fits head circumference 20 - 21.75 inches, Medium fits 21.75 - 23.25 inches and Large fits 23.25 - 24.75 inches.

Using a tape measure I measured a circumference of 22.75 inches, which would indicate a Medium. However, my existing Bell helmet (a few years old) is size Large, and fits perfectly.

I already have an BELL helmet, Medium is Medium, fits perfectly. Keep in mind that BELL has now an incorporated adjustment wheel to make adjustments even easier.

Sverre, go ahead and order the Medium. I'm a 22" and there's plenty of room without being too big.

I've been using it for about the last 6 months. I broke 2 mirrors, I returneed the parts to Bell and they sent me two new ones. The new mirror seems to be holding up better than the original ones.
The rain cover is excellent, and works fine for temperatures to -5C that I'm riding in now.
I boughty the winterizing kit; the vent seals work fine, but the ear flaps are crap (they stick out too much, very uncomfotable, and still let cold air in.) I reverted back to a simple neoprene/fleece ear band which works much better.

I'm still trying to find the specific light for this helmet; the proper light has a weighted swivel that keeps it pointed backwards (not up) at all times.

After all the feedback, realizing is a rather expensive helmet, not enough ventilation to consider it for hot summer rides, plus the fact that I already have what Bell call "accessories", I decided to go for the BELL Furio '04 which I won two nights ago at Ebay for $ 28.51 shipping included, that I think is a better deal all around, like I said I already have the helmet liner, mirror, ear flaps, and a 2x $ 1.99 strobe blinking lights which I got from Home Depot, has a clip to attach tho the back of the helmet.

I think it's a great design but like some people have mentioned, a lot of cyclists already have items that Bell is trying to incorporate in to the helmet (swivel light, ear covers, etc).

If I was starting from scratch, I would most likely get this but since I already have so many of my OWN accessories I'll just stick with what I've got.

The Bell Impulse is somewhat similar in appearance, if you're mostly looking for a helmet that doesn't look like a sci-fi movie prop. I think I paid less than thirty bucks for mine.

I have a metro and think it's a fine helmet. Bell helmets in general fit me well, and the retention system on the metro works for me. My criticism of the helmet is that it is pricey, and all of the add on gear is extra cost. There seems to be a misconception that the assesories come with the helmet. Bell has a new helmet which is a metro without the attachments for the assesories for a lot less money.
