Carrying Two 70 lb dogs-Any Ideas?
In order to take my dogs for runs in the woods I bring them in the truck.
I have a child carrier that can carry one (I have transported my therapy dog to work in it in the past). I have two moderately large labs that I would like to take to the University Trails in a trailer but 140 lbs is prohibitive. Anyone with any ideas?
Thanks,

incazzare.
That's a unique problem. Well, I've seen euro style bikes (trikes maybe?) with enclosed seats for 2 children in the front. You could look for something like that.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Find a higher end Schwinn 2 kid trailer and put a solid floor in it. It's only a bit over the unmodified load rating and the solid floor would increase that loadhauling capability significantly.

If the goal is for them to get some exercise, might be more efficient to hook your bike up to the dogs (a la Iditarod/Idatarod) and let them power on.

Our two Great Danes can ride in the trailer we originally got for our twins when they were younger. Don't have any pictures with the dogs, but it's a Tanjor in-line double trailer.
Looking on flickr, I see we aren't the only ones who use a Tanjor for big dogs:

The kid trailer is the most economical idea. If you want to throw a lot more money at the problem there are specially designed long wheelbase cargo bikes that are rated to carry 400lbs or even more. The Surly Big Dummy is one such bike.

Thanks everyone. I was not aware that there were 2 passenger child carriers.
sounds like the way to go.
will do the CL routine.
thanks again.
BTW, i know everyone was kidding but having dogs pull or run along side a bike is not good for them. the reason i run in the woods with them is so they can run unleashed and run/stop run/stop. Continued consistent jogging pace is not good for their joints..........besides there are skunks and porcupines for them to uncover :-0................I have friends who skijor in the winter..........I prefer to just BC ski and have them tag along...........they are almost 11 now and thus get special senior citizen privileges..........

You should strike a compromise with the guy who posted the "What do you do with your gear when you go into a store?" thread.

One caution on carriers where the dog can sit up. My Swiss Cattle Dog (50 lbs) absolutely loved flipping the Burley Nomad on turns. I figured out a way to harness him so he couldn't sit up all the way, which solved the problem but a smaller than usual crate would have been easier. Two dogs sitting up may pose a problem with the trailer's center of gravity if they start interacting.

Someone forgot to tell Huskies, Malamutes, etc that. And yes, skijoring rocks
Good luck with the trailering!

Cycle tote, in #22, is a good Idea, particularly built up with 2 drum brake hubs.
