Packing lunch

What does everyone here pack for a lunch? I am getting short on the list of things to bring that won't be crushed in my bag.

Anything that will fit in a plastic container. I use any plastic container that will fit in a pannier. I put the container in a bag if it's liquid in case it leaks.

No panniers. Using a messenger bag now. Currently wraps and salads in bags are what I am getting sick of. Plastic containers are too large and too much of a pain in the current configuration.

Word from the wise, don't put your banana on the bottom.

Anyone want a mashed banana?

Wrap the banana in foil to prevent the taste from hitting everything. Nanners are devoured pre-ride though.

I make all of my sandwiches using "Sandwich Rounds," which are sold under various names by Arnold, Nature's Own, Pepperidge Farm and others. They are round, thin bread rolls that don't get smooshed like normal bread. They are also relatively low calorie.

I'm fortunate to have a cafeteria at work, as well as kitchen facilities with refrigerator and pantry space. In order to satisfy my particularly healthful diet, I do like many other commuters do with their clothes; I make a weekly car trip to bring in my grub.

Like Jim I often take food in to cover me for a few days and emergencies. Normally it is tins of soup I can heat up in a microwave in the canteen.

I do sometimes like to take pasta left over from the night before or occassionally some stew.
Great for the return journey.

Wraps hold up pretty well.

Edit: pita bread also works.

Occasionally leftovers from the previous night as an entree, and some fruit and veg to round things out.
I say "occasionally" because most nights I can't be bothered to cook anything more complicated than PB&J. I'm trying to develop the habit of cooking stuff on the weekend to use as lunch during the week, but that's not working as well as I had hoped.

As for containers, I have a few 16oz Gladware bowls with screw-top lids that I use. Entree in one, Fruit in another, Veg in the third. The screw-top lids do a good job of not leaking everywhere in my bag, and they microwave well.

Is there a problem with having "nanners" after the ride or is it just that for long rides, they're most beneficial pre-ride?

I just have them for breakfast with a coffee. The fastest way to get some potassium and caffeine in me.

I use panniers, so it's no problem to bring a small lunch bag:

On the menu for today: Fuji apple, Raisins, Fig newtons, Caesar dressing, celery sticks, baby carrots. NOT PICTURED: The two graham crackers that I had for breakfast. We have pita chips here in the office if I want some extra carbs.

In case of emergency, break glass:

Progresso Soups, Albacore Tuna, V8 (Just v-fusions for now, currently out of the good stuff) and miscellaneous instant beverages.

two bananas. The crushed one in the morning, relatively unscathed one in the afternoon.
Other than that, leftovers in pyrex or a sammich. Rack top bag w/ change of clothe insulate food relatively well.

Re: bananas-

1 banana has about 422 mg of potassium, 121 calories and 31 g of carbohydrates.

1 5.5oz can of V8 has 450 mg of potassium, 30 calories and 7 grams of carbohydrates.

Can of soup. I often carry mine in a water bottle cage to keep it separate from more delicate items I may have.

I squeeze my sangers into a slim plastic tub, which fits nicely in a small backpack.

I bring a bunch of lunchmeat and cheese and half a loaf of bread at the top of the week, stick it in the fridge and eat it all week. I also go out and buy stuff like apples, etc. There's a farmer's market near my office.

Fruit. I bring oranges, grapefruit, bananas, peaches, nectarines, mangos, apricots, plums, anything I can get a hold of at the produce stand. If it's squishable, then I wrap it in my clothes to keep it from getting smashed up.

We have a lunch program at work, so I eat that most days, but I love to bring in cold pizza if we had some the night before. 2 pieces fit perfectly in one of the long Rubbermaid containers.

I am not sure what you are tired of: wraps/salads or what you put in them? I am a vegan and thus I think of things like humus (you can get powdered humus in a box and parcel it out with appropriate amounts of water. Other types of butters: almond, cashew. Tahini (crushed sesame seeds). Make felafel and use that...........grill tofu............. Tempeh........... do you have a rice maker? you can mix lentils and rice in it and cook and then carry. add some nice indian spices and voila...........different types of dried fruits.....oskri dried fruits: https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&key...sl_mtt9zyk8r_b

I am not sure any of this is helpful but being bored with lunch is not fun................

Yeah stuff in plastic containers. I rearranged my luggage to suit my cargo needs more than the other way around.
