Bikes: Had a Surly Cross Check - was totaled in recent accident. Sadly now just a Fuji Crosstown as a backup bike.

Mine takes 7 minutes - 5 if I 'hurry'.

I think there are people on the forum who work from home. Not me though.

We're purposely trying to buy a house that's at least 10 and no more than 15 miles away from my job. No short commutes for me, thank you.

1.9 miles. And yes, I chose my dwelling partly for this reason, being car-free and living in a place where winter riding (high prevailing winds, lotsa black ice, sucktacular snow removal) is difficult.

About 2.25 miles one-way, I do it in about 13 minutes. (it's a bit faster going home, because it becomes downhill in reverse.)

Not safe for work
4 km round trip on some days. I think it takes less than 10 minutes, maybe 12 or 14 if traffic is heavy.

This is an interesting thread. I never had a commute shorter than 8.5 miles. I'm amazed that some commute less than a mile on a bike. Not worth getting the bike out for that distance, I'd just walk, personally. But to each their own...

Shorter will take longer, as It is a steep hill , to Go across,
a get off and push, climb . to the top
so I go around the peninsula, near the shore, and it takes about a half hour.
.. depending on the headwinds..

10 feet!
Yes I live where I work.
But I ride 40 miles every morning and 25 almost every night!
But the answer is 10 feet!

My cycle commuting days are likely over (I work from home so I wake up, reach to my left, and pick up my laptop. 15 seconds max).
However, I did commute to college back in the 70's and that was about 1.5-2 miles. Later, I commuted from WLA to Century City which was 4-5 miles each way (somewhere around 1980). I worked on the 40th floor in one of those two towers there and put my bike in the elevator everyday and parked it in the break room. Good times.

~21 miles round trip, about 40-45 minutes each way depending on how the traffic-light-Gods shine down on me ... I guess I lose on this thread!

There is kind of a bowl in the center of our city, where the rivers are. If I take the shortest route, about 3.75 miles, I have to tackle two sort of tough-ish hills, one on each end. So I added on 3-4 miles (depending on the exact route) in order to stay around the rim of the bowl, where the hills are much smaller. I'd do ten more if I had to, I had nightmares about this one hill for years, true story...
So yeah, I don't win this thread, either: 26 minutes one way, if I don't do any extra laps, but I usually do ;-)

Its about 150' from the house to the shop. It used to be a 7 mile ride in which I did commute by bike on nice days. Enjoyed it greatly.

I bike commuted all through college in Athens, GA, and the distance was probably about 2 miles one way, but I had a lot of riding during the day between classes. It made sense riding a bike because the UGA campus is very spread out, and I would often have classes on opposite ends of campus. I probably ended up riding between 5-10 miles total most days.
