Been commuting a few months now and it's been going pretty smooth. This week I've been lazy and just bringing clothes to work one day at a time, instead of bringing a big load on Monday with me. Bit me in the butt (literally) today.

Got to work and realized no underwear.

I think, well that sucks, no big deal, I'll go commando. Not to be TMI, but I throw on my work slacks and realize going commando is going to be way, way too obvious and is not going to work in these pants.

Now I'm sitting here in my bike shorts, hoping I don't have the worse saddle sores ever when I get home. I've driven 2 hours, done a 6 hour bike ride, and driven 2 hours back home before in bike shorts, so I think I will be okay. Still kind of gross though! There is not a place to buy anything anywhere near here, and an hour ride back home is kind of a waste.

I started keeping a spare pair of socks for when it rains and my riding socks get wet. No idea why I haven't started keeping other spares. I think it's time now!

I've not forgotten underwear (yet). I do keep an extra belt and a pair of socks at work, since those are the things I've forgotten most often.

If it helps any, I felt like a real doofus when I forgot the belt. Limped from the shower to my office, and tried to sit there until lunch time. Hitched a ride to the mall nearby, and, like some teenagers, held my britches up with one hand while buying a belt with the other. But what a relief when I got that belt on!

Haha, I would probably be in the same boat about a belt. Luckily, I have a spare belt and shoes that I keep at the office at all times to prevent this! But who knows, yesterday I somehow lost a pair of arm warmers between the bathroom and my office, so could lose the belt sometime too! Thankfully yesterday a guy in the offices next to us had noticed them on the ground and was asking around whos they were.

I'd probably rather go commando than sit in bike shorts all day, but that's just me. More of a comfort than a hygiene thing though.

I started keeping spares before I started bicycling -- spare shirt and tie(s) for when I wasn't so neat eating breakfast or lunch; spare suit for the unexpected meeting. When I began motorcycling, I got used to keeping the essentials in the office (socks, underwear, belts, etc...) Now, though I actually carry my clothes to and from on a daily basis (except as noted below), if I forgot or couldn't for whatever reason, I'm covered.

In my office I keep: two belts, two pairs of shoes (which I wear most days, so I don't have to 'remember' them), a suit, a sportcoat, two dress shirts, two pairs of slacks, a few pairs of socks and a 'supply' of underwear. It is a luxury to have the extras, but one that has saved me more than a few times.

Of all the the things that one might fear are "bound to happen eventually" - such as crashing or having a bike stolen, having no underwear is an okay outcome.
I keep spares too. Socks, underwear, work/casual clothes, and even an old helmet (it has some crash damage but is arguably better than nothing). I keep a pair of swim trunks spare as well in case it rains before I leave for the way home and I'm unprepared.

I keep spares in the office but that is because we do lightning and powerfault testing and play with electricity all day. So one may never know when an extra pair of undies will come in handy. Just remember all underwear can be disposable underwear.

Doh! Been there, done that and got the t-shirt...w/matching boxers. It's the worst. Working all day in jeans and cycling shorts will serve as a solid reminder to never want to repeat the experience.

I do the Monday week's worth myself, but always have some back-up work clothes as well. Also, I keep a set of cycling clothes, too. Hate starting out a ride in wet clothes. Don't mind getting wet so much as that's inevitable. And there's a nice, hot shower upon arrival.

Welcome to the club! I've got a Marshall's just down the street from my office where I've gotten a couple pairs of underwear and a shirt. Now I keep an emergency outfit in the office.

I'm just waiting for the day when I leave my glasses at home and have to work all day in my prescription cycling sunglasses.

Check. Been there.
I chose the commando route.

I now have an extra set of underwear and socks that I keep in my panniers just in case I forget to pack some for the day.

The thing I forget most often is my belt. I have a second one, but am currently between the one I have on now and the other....it doesn't help that I can't find my other belt....

I keep an extra outfit at work. If a pair of pants or a shirt needs to be replaced, I just leave the old one at work. So far I've only had to use my stash twice, but both times I was very happy I had it there.

If it's just looks you're worried about, you can do a "modified commando." Just pack some paper towels or something around the general area.

If you do it right, this can look mighty impressive
