Bobike / Yepp Junior - detachable rear seat for kids?

Does anyone know of a solution for a pannier setup when not transporting kids? Specifically, I'm looking for a rear seat for my daughter (age 6), and am trying to decide between the Bobike and Yepp Junior. It looks like the Yepp

is designed to sit on top of a heavy-duty "easy fit" rack. But from what I hear, the rack looks like it weighs 6-7 lbs. Is there an "easy fit" rack made by Tubus or some other manufacturer that doesn't weigh a ton? The Bobike Junior
Bobike Junior $149
looks promising, as it attaches to the seatpost and obviates the need for an absurdly heavy rack. It also folds down out of the way when not in use, but again it doesn't seem removeable. I don't think I could fit a rear rack with this seat either.

Thoughts? The Yepp Maxi is removeable, but I don't think it would be quite enough to hold my 6 year old daughter.

I want to preface this with the fact that I don't have any actual experience with these child seats.....yet. I just ordered a Yepp Junior a few days ago, but I am putting it on an Xtracycle setup. However, there is a Yepp Junior BUDGET model that you can clamp to most racks. You just have to make sure whatever rack you want to use has the correct dimensions and is rated for the proper weight you would be carrying. So you should be able to use that model seat with a lighter weight rack.

Honestly though, I think it might be worth the weight penalty to use the rack that is sold with the Yepp Junior as they are literally made for eachother.

Hope this helps

I had one of these and two brackets for mounting.

Sleepy | Hamax

It was great and I recommend it, if you can find it in...wherever you are.

Any idea if the Steco safety rear carriers have the EasyFit window?

It looks like I will have no idea about the Yepp Junior either, as after not having any update on my order, I emailed the retailer I ordered from, and was told there was some recall on the Yepp junior and it was not being shipped into the US. I couldn't find any info on a recall for the Yepp Junior, but my order was canceled so who knows....

I am going to try a more DIY approach and if that doesn't work, maybe try to order a Yepp Junior from Europe after the holidays.

Where did you order it from? Lately I've been ordering from the website I linked above, and from Germany for other bike parts. Oddly enough, the Yepp costs about 2x as much here in the US. Same for bike parts like Schwalbe tires. It's weird but bike parts are way cheaper in Germany and Netherlands. Shipping is affordable, too, about 20 Euro unless it is oversized. I ordered a huge box of stuff from the Netherlands and only paid 20 Euro for shipping.

I think I'm going to try the Steco rack with the Yepp Junior (not budget). The advantage of the regular Junior is that it appears to have a quick release so you can remove it from the rack. It appears that the Steco rack is likely to work with the EasyFit. The rack is only about 30-35 Euro from the Netherlands, and the Junior itself is around 70-75 Euro. That's a total of about $100-120 USD, less than what I'd pay here.

Yeah, I tried to order from a place out in California, they were the only place in the states that had an good price. If I end up ordering the Yepp Junior again, it will be from hollandbikeshop that you linked to. When I priced it out, the Yepp Junior would be about $96 after the exchange rate and shipping were accounted for.

Did you end up buying the Steco Power rack? If you did, did the easyfit window work with Yepp seat. I understand that this rack had wide bars (16-16.5mm in diameter). Did you find any panniers that worked on such wide bars? Would Ortlieb panniers fit?
