Kona Dr. Fine Bike: $549.99 on bonktown for the next 28 minutes

FYI. Seems like a good deal, so I thought I'd post this in case anyone is looking for something like this. But I don't know much about IGHs or flat bar bikes, so caveat emptor.

That is a really good deal. Alfine with Shimano hydros for under a grand is a smokin' deal.

The Alfine 8 is a great IGH with excellent range (typically 28 to 95 gear inches with 700c's and 2:1 drive input ratio).
This looks to be on par with the Scott Sub10, MEC Hold Steady, Rocky Mountain Metropolis, etc etc etc for about half the price.

    Thanks for posting this.

an excellent commuting/utility bike. i almost picked one up earlier this year, but i ulitmately went with the very similarly spec'ed and priced Scott SUB 10 for aesthetic reasons (the Dr. Fine is just too blah for my tastes, which veer towards the flashy).

but at the $550 price point, the Kona Dr. Fine would have been a no-brainer for me all day long.

I've owned two Konas, but the most recent was more than 10 years ago. Both were great bikes.

Their regular price is <$630. Still not a bad deal with free shipping.

Wow, that's a steal at both places. I have the 2011 and it looks like the only change for 2012 is the color. I got a similar kind of deal a couple of years ago on my Marin cross bike: The graphics on the crankset had changed between model years, so I got $700 off on the previous year's model, though identical in every way other than cosmetic.

The Kona has been amazing and 100% trouble free. I test road the Scott and Giant offerings at the same level, and the Kona was definitely faster, lighter, and in my opinion, a little better designed (an excellent silent dropout system and the CF fork).

I can't imagine any graphics that could possibly be worth paying $700 for. Well played, sir.

Man, each time I see deals like this, I wish I never had bought the frame I am trying to build. I am now at $200 on it and still not done.
