Something that is steel, has disc brakes, clearance for fatty tires, dynamohub, and all the eyelets/brazeons.
Something similar to this:

It looks like just a crappy stock seat. If that were mine, I'd do shiny metal fenders, brooks, and dynamo upgrade on that. The surge of road bikes with disc brakes has really caught my attention. I met a guy who rode a lynskey that had road geometry and disc brakes. It made me drool for days.

I'll vote for Sheldon Brown's Raleigh Competition neo-Superbe -- but I'd add a full (modern, plastic) chaincase and mount the headlight on the bars instead of the fork:

Mine would be based on the 2012 Pedal Force carbon fiber CX2 frame: https://pedalforce.com/online/product...ducts_id=21005
The new CX2 features several improvements over our flagship cyclocross model, the CX1, while retaining the same great handling and riding characteristics. The geometry has been tweaked to give a lower standover height and allow for wider tires to be fitted. The top tube has a flat underside for the bike to be shouldered comfortably. Redesigned rear dropouts now include separate eyelets for mudguard and rear rack, for those who want to use the bike for long-distance sportives or as a fast urban commuter. The largest tire fit would be 38mm.
I would use a Shimano Ultegra triple drivetrain, Velocity A23/Shimano hub wheelset, and Vittoria Hyper 700x32 tires.
It would be as fast as many road bikes but can support both racks & fenders and a light load.

Dear Digital Cowboy:
I would get a Peterson. They look really strange and the seat is a hammock! People say that they are the most comfortable bikes ever designed. They are also extreemly expensive.

So, differentiating between the bike I dream of that I'm saving up to make, and the bike of my fantasy:
Fantasy/Fetish bike would be either bamboo or melted-down aluminum cans, use recycled tires for its tires, and just generally be as sustainable as it's humanly possible for a bike to be.
Dream bike:
Surly Ogre with Salsa Fargo V2 fork, Soma Sparrow handlebars, a Mavic disc wheelset with Avid BB7 brakes, and racks fore and aft.
This bike will happen, unlike the former, which is out there with my landlord installing a sheltered bike rack...

No room/attachment points for fenders & rack. Ten speed drivetrain which means a new chain every 3K miles or less. Road pedals for commuting? Not really. Also, who needs the couplings? Commuter? Not quite, but a very good looking bike.

This is what mine became
a Soma Buena Vistawith a Nuvinci rear hub.
I look forward to it every time I ride it. I have a VO Porteur rack on the front, a Pletscher Athlete on the rear, hammered fenders and albatross bars. I love this bike. The mixte frameis incredibly sporty around town and the sloping top tubes stay away from the valuables at street lights.

Moots does make a better commuter...the Moot Comooter:
Although I, personally, would opt for a traditional drive train.

I would be wary of getting the Moots Comooter as shown in the pic above. There is definitely a toe - fender/wheel overlap which in my opinion is somewhat dangerous in a commuter bike especially when negotiating through tight traffic/urban situations.

you are buyng a custom bike at that pricepoint, so specify: the top tube,
lengthen it, in the process, straighten out , perhaps,... that will take care of that ..
