Anyone tried Ortlieb Roller C I T Y panniers?

Ortlieb debuted these about a year ago, but evidently they are not marketed in the USA. This product is not listed on the OrtliebUSA site, only on the German site. They seem to be a "low budget" version of Roller Classics, with >95% of the content/value of Classics, sold at 70% of their MSRP price.

https://www.ortlieb.de/_prod.php?lang...backrollercity

comparison chart of all pannier models:

https://www.ortlieb.com/_pdf_en/radtasche_en.pdf

City panniers are sold as front and rear pairs, they're dimensionally identical to Roller Classics, same volume, same materials, nearly the same mounting hardware. The top cinch strap and shoulder carrying strap are eliminated from the City models.

F AND R sets of these can be purchased for $150 shipped to the US, so they're a good bit cheaper than Classics, considering many places charge 150 for Back Rollers alone, without shipping added.

Also, F&R pairs combined weigh 760g (380g ea) less than Classics - a 28% reduction in overall weight.

Fifteen minutes of searching revealed two comments claiming the City model is shorter than Classic when unfolded, which prevents one from "over-filling" the City to the same extent as a Classic. This makes sense, since a couple fewer square feet of the heavy PVC material would allow a lowered cost and reduce weight ~150g per bag.

I don't see much of a downside to them, other than lacking a nice shoulder strap. There is an optional strap sold to fit City panniers.

Does anyone own these and care to offer any critical comments - City vs. Classics? Thanks in advance for thoughtful replies.

I have been using a couple months the back roller classic. Looking at that comparison chart, the only difference is the weight with the city being a little lighter. Maybe it is a lighter material as well? For myself, i do not use the strap, depending on your use, may not be a miss. But with the clips that are also used for the strap actually attaching to the side of the back on the city model, I like that design better since I do not have my strap attached.
Does not look like a bad bag compared to the back roller classic.

I have an Ortlieb product, with that kind of closure, It's OK.
[It's an older camera bag, I adapted to be a HB bag.. ]

But I wouldn't bother buying them retail in Germany
and then having them shipped to the US, to get it.

You don't have to leave the strap on the back roller bags
They snap closed fine without it, on top of the bag..
Just like River runner's dry bags..
